Bengals at Dolphins prediction: No bet at Bengals -6

No bet on Bengals at Dolphins at Cincinnati -6. Last season’s scores say Miami, this season’s say Cincinnati, and I can’t see what the price was built on.

Watch the Miami offence. It has scored 13, 13 and 10 points in three games this season. Whether that is the real team or a slow start is the whole question here, and three games will not answer it.

How I make the call

Same working every week. Each team’s points per game from last season, averaged with what the other side allowed, gives me a score for the game. When that score and the market’s number are a field goal or more apart, and I can see in the results why the market sits where it does, I bet.

The first half holds, and by a lot. Cincinnati scored 24.4 a game last season and Miami allowed 24.9, so Cincinnati comes out at 24.65. Miami scored 20.4 and Cincinnati allowed 28.9, so Miami also comes out at 24.65. Dead level on a neutral field. Give Miami two and a half for home field and last season’s scores make Miami the favourite by 2.5.

The market has Cincinnati by 6 at DraftKings, 6.5 at Caesars and 5.5 at BetUS. That is eight and a half points from my number.

Why the second half fails

Last season does not explain that gap. Cincinnati finished 6-11 and 78 points behind; Miami finished 7-10 and 77 behind.

And the price is not a reaction to this season, because it was posted on 13 September, the day both teams played their opening game, and had not moved when I read it on 28 September. Whatever put it eight and a half points from last season’s scores, it was not a result. I can’t see it, so I don’t bet against it.

What this season adds

The three weeks since have gone the market’s way. Miami is 0-3: beaten 27-13 in Las Vegas, 35-13 in San Francisco and 24-10 at home by Kansas City. That is 36 points scored and 86 allowed, and no game closer than 14.

Cincinnati is 2-1. They beat Tampa Bay 33-27 at home, won 20-6 in Houston and lost 30-27 in Pittsburgh.

Put this season through the same working and Cincinnati comes out at 27.7 and Miami at 16.5. With home field, that is Cincinnati by about 8.7. So the two seasons point about 11 points apart, and the market sits between them, nearer this one.

That is the trap in this game. If I back Miami at +6, I am betting that three weeks of 12 points a game are noise. If I lay the 6 with Cincinnati, I am throwing out a full season that said these teams were level. I would do neither.

The one meeting

Cincinnati won 45-21 in Miami on 21 December last season, a 24-point win on this same field.

It is one game and it proves nothing about this one, but it is the only time these two have met in the data I have, which starts with the 2025 season.

The total

The working gives about 49.3 points, against 49.5 at DraftKings and BetUS and 48 at Caesars. No bet.

This season leans lower. Miami’s three games finished on 40, 48 and 34 points, and four of the six games these teams have played went under 49.5. But last season’s working is within a point of the market, and that is the half I bet on, so I leave it.

What would change the call

A reason I can see. If the injury report or Miami’s Week 4 result explains why this is a six-point game, the working has something to push against, and the full page will make a call at the price on the day. Until then, the moneyline tells you the same story as the spread: Cincinnati -270 at DraftKings, Miami +220.
