How the number is built

The method is one clause: our home win chance is the average of the home team’s 2025-26 home win rate and the visitor’s 2025-26 road loss rate, with a win in overtime or a shootout counted as a win.

The Capitals went 25-11-5 at home last season: 25 wins, 11 regulation losses and 5 losses after regulation. That is a 61.0% home win rate over 41 games. The Kraken went 15-20-6 on the road, so they lost 26 of 41, a 63.4% road loss rate. The average of 61.0 and 63.4 is 62.2 for the Capitals, and 37.8 for the Kraken.

The two halves sit 2.4 points apart and point the same way. The number is still last season’s. The 2026-27 season started on 29 September, and no game from it is in these figures. Nothing on this page measures what changed over the summer.

The Capitals at home, the Kraken on the road

At home, the Capitals scored 3.39 goals a game and allowed 2.66. The Kraken on the road scored 2.56 and allowed 3.37. The Capitals scored 0.83 a game more, and the Kraken allowed 0.71 more.

The Capitals were a different team on the road. They went 18-19-4 away from Washington, a 43.9% win rate against 61.0% at home, and allowed 3.29 a game there against 2.66. This game is in their building, which is the half that counts.

The Kraken’s road record was their weaker one too. They went 19-17-5 at home and 15-20-6 away, and they scored 2.95 a game at home against 2.56 on the road.

Across the full season the Capitals finished 43-30-9 with 95 points and outscored opponents by 0.23 goals a game. The Kraken finished 34-37-11 with 79 points and were outscored by 0.45 a game; they lost by two goals or more in 32 of their 82. Neither team reached the playoffs.

The teams met twice and each won at home. The Capitals won 4-1 in Washington in October, and the Kraken won 5-1 in Seattle in January. Two games prove nothing.

Pick: no bet until a line is posted

Our number is 62.2% for the Capitals and 37.8% for the Kraken. The market’s figure is the moneyline with the margin removed. The margin is the few points a book builds into both prices so that they add up to more than 100%.

For the Capitals to be a bet, the market has to rate them at 57.2% or less. With no margin, that is a price of -133. For the Kraken, the market has to rate them at 32.8% or less, which is +205.

Taking the margin out only lowers a side’s chance. So a posted price at or past either of those is a bet whatever the other side reads. A slightly shorter price can clear the threshold too, depending on the pair, and the full page works that out from the posted line.

It rests on 82 games, 41 at home for the Capitals and 41 on the road for the Kraken, all from last season.

What changes it

The price. If the market, with the margin removed, rates the Capitals anywhere between 57.2% and 67.2%, neither side is a bet and the call is a pass. The full page re-reads the line on the day of the game.
