Hawks vs Hornets Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
Bet the Hornets at +120. Our prediction gives Charlotte at home 48.8%; the price gives them 43.7%.
The Charlotte Hornets are +120 and the Atlanta Hawks -142 at DraftKings. With the margin out, that is 43.7% for Charlotte and 56.3% for Atlanta. Last season’s home and road records put Charlotte 5.1 points higher than the market. We bet at 5, so this clears the bar by 0.1 points. That is the thinnest edge the rule allows, and the page treats it that way.
How 48.8% is reached
Our home win chance is the average of two 2025-26 regular-season rates: the home team’s win rate in its own arena and the visitor’s loss rate on the road. Neutral-site games are in neither half. Neither team played one.
The Hornets went 21-20 at Spectrum Center, a 51.2% home win rate over 41 games. The Hawks went 22-19 on the road, a 46.3% road loss rate over 41 games. The midpoint is 48.8% for Charlotte and 51.2% for Atlanta.
The margin is the extra a book builds into both prices so the pair adds to more than 100%. At +120 and -142 the pair comes to 104.1%. With that taken out, the Hornets are 43.7% and the Hawks 56.3%.
Both teams opened 2026-27 on Wednesday 21 October. Charlotte won 110-103 at the Brooklyn Nets, and Atlanta won 132-125 at the Orlando Magic. Our number reads 2025-26 only, so neither game is in it, and neither is any summer roster change. One game each is no sample. It proves nothing in either direction.
Charlotte at home, Atlanta on the road
At home the Hornets scored 115.0 points a game and allowed 111.1, a margin of 3.9. The Hawks on the road scored 119.1 and allowed 118.1, a margin of 1.0. The method sets a near-.500 home side against a road side that lost close to half its games.
The method leaves out the other two halves, and they cut the other way. Charlotte was better on the road than at home: 23-18, scoring 117.0 and allowing 111.2, a margin of 5.8. Atlanta at home went 24-17, scoring 117.8 and allowing 114.0, a margin of 3.8. Our number uses Charlotte’s weaker half.
The season around it
Over the full 2025-26 season, the Hornets finished 44-38, the 9th seed in the East, and outscored opponents by 4.8 points a game (116.0 to 111.2). They missed the playoffs. They won 32 games by 10 or more and lost 19 that way. In games decided by 5 points or fewer they went 5-11, with 3 overtime games.
The Hawks finished 46-36, the 6th seed, and outscored opponents by 2.5 a game (118.5 to 116.0). They won 33 games by 10 or more and lost 19 that way, and went 9-10 in games decided by 5 or fewer, with 2 overtime games. In the playoffs they lost a series 4-2 to the New York Knicks. Charlotte had the better point difference and the worse record. A 5-11 mark in close games is part of that gap.
Charlotte won three of the four games between the teams. In Charlotte, the Hornets won 133-126 on 18 December 2025 and 110-107 on 11 February 2026. Those two are in our number: two of Charlotte’s 41 home games and two of Atlanta’s 41 road games. In Atlanta, the Hawks won 113-110 on 23 November 2025 and the Hornets won 126-119 on 7 February 2026. Those are in neither half.
Pick: Hornets +120
Bet the Hornets on the moneyline at +120. The gap is 5.1 points toward Charlotte, against a threshold of 5.
The line read Hornets +120 and Hawks -142 on 22 October 2026 at 21:17 UTC, DraftKings via ESPN. It opened at Hornets +114 and Hawks -135. Since the open the market has moved 1.2 points toward Atlanta. At the open it gave Charlotte 44.9%; it now gives 43.7%. That move is what made the Hornets a bet.
What kills the bet
A shorter Charlotte price. With the Hawks at -142, the Hornets stay a bet at +119 or longer. Any shorter, and the gap drops under 5 points and this becomes a pass. At +129 or longer, Charlotte is a bet whatever Atlanta is priced at. The current price sits one step above the break point, so check it before you bet.
For the Hawks to become the bet, they would need to be +117 or longer, whatever the Charlotte price. Against the current Hornets price of +120, they would need +156 or longer. They are -142.
ESPN’s injury list for the game, read 22 October 2026 at 21:17 UTC, has four Hornets out: Grant Williams (hamstring), Coby White (calf), Kon Knueppel (hamstring) and Kylan Boswell (knee). It has two Hawks out: Mouhamed Gueye (foot) and Henri Veesaar (knee). Our NBA method has no key-player rule, so the list does not change the number. Charlotte has the longer list, and our 48.8% is drawn from last season’s roster. That is the main risk in a 5.1-point edge. Check the lineups before you bet.
The total and the spread
The total is 226.5, over -105 and under -115. The Hornets’ home games went over 226.5 in 22 of 41, a 53.7% rate. The Hawks’ road games went over in 27 of 41, a 65.9% rate. Charlotte’s home games averaged 226.1 points, and Atlanta’s road games averaged 237.2. Across all 82 games, Charlotte went over this line in 41 and Atlanta in 49.
The two venue rates average to 59.8% for the over. With the margin removed, the market prices the over at 48.9% and the under at 51.1%, so our count leans to the over by 10.8 points. That is a larger gap than the moneyline’s. Our method stakes the moneyline only, so this is a lean, not a bet.
The spread is Hornets +2.5 at -108 and Hawks -2.5 at -112, unchanged from the open. At home, Charlotte beat a +2.5 line in 23 of 41 games. On the road, Atlanta covered -2.5 in 19 of 41. Averaged, Hornets +2.5 lands 54.9% of the time against 49.6% priced, a gap of 5.3 points. That is the same side as the pick and a lean only. One bet on this game: the Hornets at +120.
