Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils

The Delta Devils won 3 of 33 games in 2025-26, the lowest win rate in Division I, and were the underdog in every one of their 32 lined games. Against the spread they broke exactly even, 16 and 16.

Underdogs every time

Thirty-two lined games, 32 times getting points: the most underdog games of any Division I team. Mississippi Valley State won two of them and covered 16. Eleven of those covers came on the road, in 19 lined road games, where the spreads were widest. The third win, 97-61 over Mississippi University for Women, a non-Division I side, had no line.

The non-conference schedule set lines of 34.5 to 44.5 points at UAB, Murray State, Hawai’i, Texas A&M, Kansas State, Florida State, West Virginia and Oklahoma. Four of those eight covered, the 84-120 loss at Texas A&M among them against 42.5 points. None of the eight carried a moneyline.

The two wins

Both came in February within six days and both paid long: 72-71 over Texas Southern at +440 at home, then 70-69 at Arkansas-Pine Bluff at +750. They turned February into a 5.90-unit month, the only month in profit.

The rest of it

January was 0-8 and lost eight units, though four of the eight covered. Books priced the moneyline in only 24 of the 33 games; backing all 24 cost 10.10 units. The Delta Devils scored 64.24 a game, with only seven teams lower, and allowed 83.0.

The season ended in the SWAC tournament first round, 52-77 to Grambling at +800, Grambling’s second win over them in two weeks.

At home

Home was worse than the road against the number: 2-9 straight up and 3 covers in 10, a rate only 32 teams fell below. On the road they covered 11 of 19.

The total

Eighteen unders and 14 overs; 89 teams went under more often.
