The prices and what they say
DraftKings has Texas -2.5 at -115 and Missouri +2.5 at -105, read 5 November 2026 at 17:37 UTC via ESPN. Missouri opened at +3.5.
The moneyline is Texas -142 and Missouri +120. Every pair of book prices carries a margin, the extra a book builds in so the two implied chances add to more than 100%. Once that margin is removed, the market gives Texas a 56.3% chance to win and Missouri 43.7%.
ESPN’s FPI is further from us than the market is. It has Texas at 71.3%.
How Missouri by 10 is reached
The method takes half the difference between the home team’s average margin at home and the visitor’s average margin on the road. It counts games against FBS teams only, from 2025 and 2026 together. Bowl and playoff games are at neutral sites, so they are left out. The method also leaves out Texas’s 27-24 loss to Oklahoma on 10 October, which was played at a neutral site.
Missouri is 8-2 at home against FBS teams over that span, winning by 15.5 points a game. Texas is 3-3 on the road against FBS teams, losing by 4.5 a game. Half the difference is 10.0 points in Missouri’s favor, so our line is Missouri -10.
The base is 16 games: 10 for Missouri and 6 for Texas. Each sample clears the 4-game minimum. Texas’s 6 is the thinner half.
This season so far
Missouri is 6-2, 3-2 in the SEC and 4-0 at home. Against FBS teams it is 5-2, with a margin of +9.3 a game. Its overall figures of 31.5 points scored and 18.4 allowed include a 54-14 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, a team outside the FBS. Most recently it won 34-10 at Arkansas on 31 October.
Texas is 6-2, 3-2 in the SEC and 5-1 at home, with every game against an FBS team. It scores 30.8 points a game and allows 17.1, a margin of +13.6. It has won two straight, the latest 31-3 over Mississippi State on 31 October.
None of this is in our number. The records and streaks are context outside the method. On this season’s FBS margins Texas is the better side, and that is the argument the market is making.
Missouri at home, Texas on the road
Missouri’s three home games against FBS teams this season were all wins: 27-17 over Troy on 19 September, 45-17 over Florida on 3 October and 27-6 over Texas A&M on 10 October. The rest of its home sample is from 2025, when it went 6-2 at home.
The road half of Texas’s sample has one 2026 game: a 20-17 win at Tennessee on 26 September. Every other game in that half is from 2025, when Texas went 2-3 on the road. That is the weak point of the number. Most of what it says about Texas away from Austin describes last season’s team.
The halves the method leaves out cut the other way. Missouri lost 31-24 at Mississippi State and 31-3 at Ole Miss this season. Texas won five of six at home, including 24-23 over Ohio State on 12 September. Those games do not describe a Missouri home game or a Texas road game, so the method does not use them.
Last season and the meetings
Missouri went 8-5 in 2025 with a margin of +11.3 a game, and lost its bowl game 13-7 to Virginia on 27 December 2025 at a neutral site. Texas went 10-3 at +10.2 a game and beat Michigan 41-27 in its bowl game on 31 December 2025.
The teams did not play each other in 2025 or 2026. No meeting is inside our number.
Pick: Missouri +2.5 (-105)
Missouri +2.5 at -105, DraftKings, read 5 November 2026 at 17:37 UTC. It opened at +3.5. The gap is 12.5 points against a 3-point threshold.
The bet rests on 16 games, split 10 and 6. Missouri’s half is the larger and partly current. Texas’s half is mostly 2025.
What kills the bet
The line. Missouri stays a bet at any price up to Missouri -7. Past that, the call is a pass. Texas would need to be getting 13 points or more to be the bet.
The risk is the sample. FPI at 71.3% and Texas’s +13.6 FBS margin this season both side with the market, and our number weights two seasons of venue splits over eight games of 2026 form. If the Texas road half were mostly this season’s team, the gap would rest on firmer ground.
The ESPN game page, read 5 November 2026 at 17:37 UTC, showed no injury entries for either team. Check the lineups before you bet.
The total
The total is 42.5, down from 49.5 at the open. The over is -115 and the under -105.
Against FBS teams across 2025 and 2026, Missouri’s games went over 42.5 in 13 of 19, and Texas’s in 14 of 21. This season Missouri’s FBS games produced 59, 44, 55, 62, 33, 34 and 44 points. Texas’s produced 66, 47, 36, 37, 51, 51, 61 and 34.
No bet on the total. The method stakes the spread only, and these counts are a description, not a number set against the line. The moneyline is no second bet either: Missouri +120 is the same side as the spread pick, a lean at most.
