Sharks at Blues Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
The market has St. Louis within 3.5 points of our number. Pass on Sharks at Blues.
The St. Louis Blues are -105 against the San Jose Sharks at -115 at DraftKings. With the margin removed, that is a 48.9% chance for the Blues. Our number is 52.4%. The gap is 3.5 points, and the threshold for a bet is 5. There is no bet on either side.
How the number is built
The method is one clause: our home win chance is the average of the home team’s 2025-26 home win rate and the visitor’s 2025-26 road loss rate, with a win in overtime or a shootout counted as a win.
The Blues went 20-14-7 at home last season. That is 20 wins, 14 regulation losses and 7 losses after regulation, a 48.8% home win rate over 41 games. The Sharks went 18-21-2 on the road, so they lost 23 of 41, a 56.1% road loss rate. The average of the two unrounded rates is 52.44, which rounds to 52.4 for the Blues and leaves 47.6 for the Sharks.
The market’s figure is the moneyline with the margin taken out. The margin is the few points a book builds into both prices so that they add up to more than 100%. Out of -105 and -115 it leaves the Blues at 48.9% and the Sharks at 51.1%.
It is a new season. Rosters change over a summer, and nothing on this page measures what changed. The evidence in hand is last season: 41 home games for St. Louis and 41 road games for San Jose.
The Blues at home, the Sharks on the road
Neither half is strong. St. Louis won fewer than half its home games and was outscored there, 2.83 goals a game scored against 3.07 allowed. San Jose on the road scored 3.05 and allowed 3.66, a deficit of 0.61 a game, and lost 21 of its road games in regulation.
The two teams finished level on 86 points. The Blues went 37-33-12 and were outscored by 0.33 a game (2.82 scored, 3.15 allowed). The Sharks went 39-35-8 and were outscored by 0.50 a game (3.06 scored, 3.56 allowed). Neither played a playoff game.
San Jose won more than its goals suggest. It played 35 one-goal games and went 22-5-8 in them, 22 wins in 35. We read a record built on one-goal wins as the least repeatable part of a season, and it is one reason not to lean on the Sharks at a price that already makes them the favourite.
The teams met three times in 24 days in March, and two went to overtime. St. Louis won 3-2 in overtime in San Jose on 6 March and 2-1 in overtime at home on 26 March. San Jose won 5-4 at home on 30 March. Three games prove nothing about a fourth.
The price
The Blues opened at +100 and the Sharks at -120. At those prices the market had St. Louis at 47.8%, a gap of 4.6 points, still short of the threshold. Read on 28 September 2026 at 18:26 UTC, DraftKings via ESPN, they were -105 and -115. The move toward the Blues has taken the gap from 4.6 to 3.5.
Pick: pass (Blues -105, Sharks -115)
No bet. Our number is 52.4% for the Blues, the market’s is 48.9%, and the 3.5-point gap is short of the 5-point threshold. On the Sharks side our number is lower than the market’s, so there is nothing there either.
It rests on 82 games, 41 at home for the Blues and 41 on the road for the Sharks, all from last season.
What changes it
The price. With the book’s margin at today’s size, the Blues at +102 leave a gap of 5.1 points and become a bet. At +100, the opening price, the gap is 4.6 and it is still a pass. The Sharks would need to drift out to +124 before they became a bet.
The summer is the other thing. A season of home and road results says how these two teams played in 2025-26, and nothing on this page says who is in either lineup on 8 October. Check the lineups before you bet. The full page re-reads the line on the day.
