Wild at Lightning Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
We make Tampa Bay 53.7% against Minnesota. Neither side is a bet as the favourite: the Lightning need +106 or better, the Wild +142 or better.
No line had been posted for this game when we read the market on 28 September 2026. So this page gives our number and the prices at which it turns into a bet. Our number is 53.7% for the Tampa Bay Lightning and 46.3% for the Minnesota Wild. A side is a bet when the market’s figure sits at least 5 points below ours.
How the number is built
The method is one clause: our home win chance is the average of the home team’s 2025-26 home win rate and the visitor’s 2025-26 road loss rate, with a win in overtime or a shootout counted as a win.
The Lightning went 26-14-1 at home last season. That is 26 wins, 14 regulation losses and 1 loss after regulation, a 63.4% home win rate over 41 games. The Wild went 23-14-4 on the road, so they lost 18 of 41, a 43.9% road loss rate. The average of the two unrounded rates is 53.66. Our number is 53.7, and every price below is measured from it.
It is a new season. Rosters change over a summer, and nothing on this page measures what changed. The evidence in hand is last season: 41 home games for Tampa Bay and 41 road games for Minnesota.
The Lightning at home, the Wild on the road
Tampa Bay at home scored 3.34 goals a game and allowed 2.80, a margin of 0.54. Only one of its 15 home losses went past regulation. It was a better scoring team away from home, 3.73 a game on the road, where it went 24-12-5.
Minnesota was as good away as at home: 23 wins in each half. On the road it scored 3.46 a game and allowed 3.05, a margin of 0.41. That is 0.13 a game short of Tampa Bay’s home margin, and it is why the number leans only slightly to the Lightning.
Across the full season the Lightning finished 50-26-6 with 106 points and outscored opponents by 0.72 goals a game (3.54 scored, 2.82 allowed). They won by two goals or more in 35 of their 82 games. They lost their one playoff series, 4-3 to the Montreal Canadiens.
The Wild finished 46-24-12 with 104 points and outscored opponents by 0.39 a game (3.32 scored, 2.93 allowed). Twenty-seven of their games went past regulation, and they went 20-5-12 in one-goal games. In the playoffs they beat the Dallas Stars 4-2, then lost 4-1 to the Colorado Avalanche.
The teams met twice in 2025-26, both in March, and each won at home. Minnesota won 5-1 on 3 March, and Tampa Bay won 6-3 on 24 March. Two games prove nothing.
Pick: Lightning at +106 or better, Wild at +142 or better
With no line posted, the pick is a pair of prices. Our 53.7% for the Lightning, less the 5-point threshold, is 48.7%. That is below even money, so Tampa Bay is a bet only as an underdog, at +106 or better (+110, +115 and so on). Our 46.3% for the Wild, less 5, is 41.3%. At +142 or better, Minnesota is a bet. If either team is priced as the favourite, that side is a pass.
Those are fair prices, with the margin taken out. A posted line carries a margin on both sides, so the posted pair has to be converted before it is compared. At +105 the Lightning gap is 4.9 points, and at +141 the Wild gap is 4.8. Both are passes.
It rests on 82 games, 41 at home for the Lightning and 41 on the road for the Wild, all from last season.
What changes it
The line. When a price is posted, the margin comes out of it, and the call is whatever side clears 5 points at that price, or a pass. Both thresholds are underdog prices, so a line that makes either team the favourite leaves that team a pass. The full page re-reads the line on the day.
The summer is the other thing. A season of home and road results says how these two teams played in 2025-26, and nothing on this page says who is in either lineup on 8 October. Check the lineups before you bet.
