Pistons vs Heat Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
No bet on the Pistons. Our number gives Detroit 52.4% at Miami, the market 47.8%, and that gap is short of our 5-point rule.
The Detroit Pistons are +100 and the Miami Heat -120 at DraftKings. With the margin out, that is 47.8% for Detroit and 52.2% for Miami. Last season’s home and road records put Detroit 4.6 points higher than the market does. We bet at 5, so this is a pass.
How 52.4% is reached
Our home win chance is the average of two 2025-26 regular-season rates: the home team’s win rate in its own arena and the visitor’s loss rate on the road. Games at a neutral site are in neither half. Detroit played one; Miami played none.
The Heat went 26-15 at Kaseya Center, a 63.4% home win rate over 41 games. The Pistons went 28-13 on the road and lost 13 of 41, a 31.7% road loss rate. The midpoint is 47.6% for Miami and 52.4% for Detroit.
The margin is the extra a book builds into both prices so the pair comes to more than 100%. At +100 and -120 the pair comes to 104.5%. Taken out, the Pistons are 47.8% and the Heat 52.2%. Our 52.4% against the market’s 47.8% is a gap of 4.6 points toward Detroit.
The 2026-27 season is one game old for each team, and none of it is in our number. Miami lost its opener 131-106 to the Minnesota Timberwolves at home on Wednesday 21 October and is 0-1. Detroit beat the Boston Celtics 121-113 on Tuesday 20 October and is 1-0, with no road game yet. One game each says nothing a rate can use. Our number also does not see roster changes over the summer.
Miami at home, Detroit on the road
At home the Heat scored 123.5 points a game and allowed 118.3, a margin of 5.2. The Pistons on the road scored 116.8 and allowed 111.0, a margin of 5.8. These are the two halves the method reads, and they nearly cancel.
The halves the method leaves out favour Detroit by more. The Pistons at home went 31-9, scoring 118.6 and allowing 108.2, a margin of 10.4. The Heat on the road went 17-24, scoring 118.3 and allowing 118.8, a margin of -0.5. Those records are outside the method, and the method is the rule.
The season around it
The Pistons finished 60-22, the 1 seed in the Eastern Conference. They scored 117.8 a game and allowed 109.6, a point difference of 8.2. They won by 10 or more 34 times and lost by 10 or more 8 times. In games decided by 5 points or fewer they went 14-10, and 5 of their games went to overtime. In the playoffs they beat the Orlando Magic 4-3 and lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers 4-3.
The Heat finished 43-39, the 10 seed in the East, and missed the playoffs. They scored 120.9 and allowed 118.5, a point difference of 2.4. They won by 10 or more 29 times and lost by 10 or more 23 times. Their record in games decided by 5 or fewer was 8-8, with 1 overtime game.
The Heat won two of the three meetings. In Miami, the Pistons won 138-135 on 29 November 2025 and the Heat won 121-110 on 8 March 2026; both games are in our number, as two of Miami’s 41 home games and two of Detroit’s 41 road games. In Detroit, the Heat won 118-112 on 1 January 2026; that game is in neither half.
Pick: No bet
No bet on the moneyline. The gap is 4.6 points toward the Pistons, against a threshold of 5.
The line read Pistons +100 and Heat -120 on 22 October 2026 at 20:59 UTC, DraftKings via ESPN. It opened at Pistons +105 and Heat -125. Since the open the market gives Detroit 1.1 points more: 47.8% now against 46.8% then. That move closed part of the gap our number had at the open. At -120 for Miami, the price is close enough to our 47.6% for the Heat that neither side pays for its risk by our rule.
What kills the bet
A longer Detroit price makes the Pistons a bet. At +111 or longer they are a bet whatever Miami is priced at; with the Heat at -120, they become a bet at +104 or longer. The current price is +100.
For the Heat to become the bet, their price would have to drift a long way. At +135 or longer Miami is a bet whatever Detroit is priced at; against the Pistons at +100, Miami needs +169 or longer. Nothing in the move since the open points that way.
ESPN’s injury list for the game, read 22 October 2026 at 20:59 UTC, has Taurean Prince (F) day-to-day for Detroit for personal reasons. Miami’s list is empty. Our method reads the records only, so the list does not change the number. Check the lineups before you bet.
The total and the spread
The total is 237.5, over -105 and under -115. The Heat’s home games went over 237.5 in 23 of 41, a 56.1% rate. The Pistons’ road games went over in 9 of 41, a 22.0% rate. Across all 82 games, Miami went over this line 44 times and Detroit 23 times. Miami’s home games averaged 241.8 points; Detroit’s road games averaged 227.8.
The average of the two venue rates is 39.0% for the over. With the margin removed the over is priced at 48.9% and the under at 51.1%, so our count leans to the under by 9.9 points. Our method stakes the moneyline only, so this is a lean, not a bet.
The spread is Heat -1.5 at -110 and Pistons +1.5 at -110, unchanged from the open. Miami at home beat this line in 26 of 41 games; Detroit on the road beat it in 28 of 41. Averaged, Heat -1.5 lands 47.6% of the time against 50.0% priced, a gap of 2.4 points toward Pistons +1.5. That is a lean on the same side as the moneyline gap, and it is smaller still. No bet on this game.
