Pick the Broncos +2.5 – Broncos at Chargers prediction, odds and best picks
Denver won 14 games last season and is getting 2.5 from an 0-3 team. Give me the Broncos and the points.
Denver visits the Chargers on Sunday 11 October, kickoff 4:05 PM ET. First the record. Our last graded card, Week 3, went 3-3: Cleveland +2.5, the under 42 in Panthers at Browns and the Giants -3 won; New England +3, the under 43.5 in Raiders at Saints and the over 39.5 in Titans at Giants lost. At one unit a bet and prices under even money, that is a fraction of a unit down. Week 4 is still to play.
How the card works, same as every week. My number is last season’s scoring for and against, 17 games each, turned into a margin, with two points for the home side. I bet a side or a total only when the market sits three points or more away from that number. One unit on every bet.
Broncos +2.5 (-110)
Denver went 14-3 last season, scoring 401 and allowing 311. That is plus 90. The Chargers went 11-6, scoring 368 and allowing 340, plus 28. Two good teams, and one of them clearly better.
So who should be favoured? On those rates, Denver by three and a half on a neutral field, and by a point and a half after two points for the Chargers at home. The market has the Chargers by two and a half. That is a gap of four points, and it is the wrong team laying them.
Worst price to bet: Broncos +1.5 (-110). At +1 the gap drops under three and I pass.
This season points the same way
The Chargers are 0-3 and minus 32. They lost 26-14 at home to Arizona, 26-14 at home to Las Vegas, and 24-16 at Buffalo on Sunday. That is 14.7 points a game from an offence that scored 21.6 last season.
Denver is 2-1: a 31-10 loss at Kansas City, then home wins over Jacksonville, 20-13, and the Rams, 30-26. Minus 10 on the year, all of it from one bad game in Kansas City.
Concede it properly
Denver’s 14 wins were built on close games. The Broncos went 11-2 in games decided by a score or less last season, and plus 90 is a modest margin for a team that won that many. I would not count on 11-2 again.
The road is the other worry. Denver’s only trip this season was the 21-point loss in Kansas City, and last season the Broncos were plus 2.5 a game away from home against plus 7.8 at home.
The two teams split last season’s meetings. The Chargers won 23-20 at home on 21 September 2025; Denver won 19-3 at home on 4 January. Our game records begin in 2025, so those are the only two.
Personally, I think the close-game record is a fair knock on Denver and not a four-point one. An 0-3 team that scores 14.7 a game should not be laying points to anybody who finished 14-3. Give me the Broncos.
Where the price stands
This is an early line, read 13 days before kickoff. Three US sportsbooks, read 28 September and last posted on 13 September, the first Sunday of the season, before the Chargers had a result this season. DraftKings and BetUS have the Chargers -2.5 at -110. William Hill has -3, with Denver +3 at -120.
DraftKings is the reference line. Shop around: a price posted before 0-3 may have moved since, and +3 at William Hill was the better ticket if it is still there.
The total
Forty-four and a half at all three books. No bet, and it is close.
Denver scored 23.6 a game last season and allowed 18.3. The Chargers scored 21.6 and allowed 20.0. Run each offence against the other defence and I land on 42, two and a half under the market. That is short of three.
The history leans the same way. Denver’s games went under 44.5 in 11 of 17 last season, the Chargers’ in 10. This season all three Chargers games have finished on exactly 40 points. At 45 the gap clears three and the under becomes a bet; at 44.5 we sit it out.
The moneyline
DraftKings has Denver +120 and the Chargers -143. With the margin taken out, that is about a 44 percent chance for the Broncos, and my number has them as the better team. Tempting, but I would rather have the two and a half, which still wins if Denver loses by one or two.
What would change it
A spread that has moved to the Chargers -1 or shorter takes the bet away. A move to -3 or beyond makes it a better one. The full version of this page re-reads every book in the week of the game.
Give me the Broncos +2.5, one unit, and nothing on the total unless it reaches 45.
The call comes from last season’s 17-game rates and the prices read on 28 September. The rest of the Week 5 card is on our NFL predictions page.
