Red Wings at Canadiens Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
Our number has the Canadiens at 54.9%. They are a bet at +101 or longer, the Red Wings at +150 or longer.
No line has been posted for Detroit at Montreal as of 28 September 2026. Our number puts the Montreal Canadiens’ win chance at 54.9% and the Detroit Red Wings’ at 45.1%. A side is a bet when our number and the market’s are 5 points or more apart. Without a price, there is no gap to measure.
How the number is built
The method is one clause: our home win chance is the average of the home team’s 2025-26 home win rate and the visitor’s 2025-26 road loss rate, with a win in overtime or a shootout counted as a win.
The Canadiens went 24-15-2 at home last season: 24 wins, 15 regulation losses and 2 losses after regulation. That is a 58.5% home win rate over 41 games. The Red Wings went 20-15-6 on the road, so they lost 21 of 41, a 51.2% road loss rate. The average of the two unrounded rates is 54.88, which rounds to 54.9 for the Canadiens and 45.1 for the Red Wings.
All of it is last season. The 2026-27 schedule started on 29 September, and no game from it is in the figures. Rosters change over a summer, and nothing here measures what changed.
The Canadiens at home, the Red Wings on the road
At home, the Canadiens scored 3.34 goals a game and allowed 3.10. The Red Wings on the road scored 2.78 and allowed 2.95. The Canadiens scored 0.56 a game more; the Red Wings allowed 0.15 fewer.
The Canadiens won 24 in each building, a 58.5% rate at home and on the road. Their road record, 24-9-8, had fewer regulation losses than their home one. A team with the same win rate in both places gives the method a home half that is not a fluke of one building.
The Red Wings were also even. They won 21 at home and 20 away, and on the road they allowed 0.39 a game fewer than at home: 2.95 against 3.34.
Across the full season the Canadiens finished 48-24-10 with 106 points and outscored opponents by 0.33 goals a game. They won two playoff series, both 4-3, over the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Buffalo Sabres, then lost 4-1 to the Carolina Hurricanes. The Red Wings finished 41-31-10 with 92 points, were outscored by 0.21 a game and did not reach the playoffs.
Both teams played a lot of close games. The Canadiens went 23-6-10 in 39 one-goal games, and 24 of their 82 went past regulation. The Red Wings went 18-5-10 in 33.
The teams met three times in 2025-26, and the Canadiens won two, both in Detroit: 5-1 in October and 3-1 in March. The Red Wings won 4-0 in Montreal in January. Three games prove nothing about a fourth.
Pick: no bet until a line is posted
Our number is 54.9% for the Canadiens and 45.1% for the Red Wings. The market’s figure is the moneyline with the margin removed. The margin is the few points a book builds into both prices so that they add up to more than 100%.
For the Canadiens to be a bet, the market has to rate them at 49.9% or less. With no margin, that is a price of +101. For the Red Wings, the market has to rate them at 40.1% or less, which is +150.
Taking the margin out only lowers a side’s chance. So a posted price at or past either of those is a bet whatever the other side reads. A slightly shorter one can clear the threshold too, depending on the pair, and the full page works that out from the posted line.
It rests on 82 games, 41 at home for the Canadiens and 41 on the road for the Red Wings, all from last season.
What changes it
The price. If the market, with the margin removed, rates the Canadiens anywhere between 49.9% and 59.9%, neither side is a bet and the call is a pass. The full page re-reads the line on the day of the game.
The summer. Nothing on this page says who is in either lineup on 10 October. Check the lineups before you bet.
