Mammoth at Sabres Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
Our number has the Sabres at 56.1%. They are a bet at -104 or better, the Mammoth at +158 or longer.
No line has been posted for Utah at Buffalo as of 28 September 2026. Our number puts the Buffalo Sabres’ win chance at 56.1% and the Utah Mammoth’s at 43.9%. A side is a bet when our number and the market’s are 5 points or more apart, and without a price there is nothing to set ours against.
How the number is built
The method is one clause: our home win chance is the average of the home team’s 2025-26 home win rate and the visitor’s 2025-26 road loss rate, with a win in overtime or a shootout counted as a win.
The Sabres went 26-10-5 at home last season: 26 wins, 10 regulation losses and 5 losses after regulation. That is a 63.4% home win rate over 41 games. The Mammoth went 21-17-3 on the road, so they lost 20 of 41, a 48.8% road loss rate. The average of 63.4 and 48.8 is 56.1 for the Sabres, and 43.9 for the Mammoth.
The two halves disagree by 14.6 points. Read from the Sabres’ home record alone, Buffalo wins this game 63.4% of the time. Read from the Mammoth’s road record alone, it is 48.8%, a little under a coin flip.
This is a new season, and the figures are last season’s. The 2026-27 schedule began on 29 September and none of it is in them. Nothing here measures what changed over the summer.
The Sabres at home, the Mammoth on the road
At home, the Sabres scored 3.63 goals a game and allowed 2.90. The Mammoth on the road scored 3.20 and allowed 2.83. The Sabres scored 0.43 a game more; the Mammoth allowed 0.07 fewer.
The Mammoth’s two halves were almost the same record. They went 22-16-3 at home and 21-17-3 away. A team that plays the same in both buildings gives the method a stable road half, and 48.8% is it.
The Sabres rarely lost a close game in regulation. Of their 27 one-goal games they went 15-3-9: 3 losses in 60 minutes, 9 after it. That is a thin sample for a rate, and the method counts those 9 as losses anyway.
Across the full season the Sabres finished 50-23-9 with 109 points and outscored opponents by 0.57 goals a game. In the playoffs they beat the Boston Bruins 4-2 and lost 4-3 to the Montreal Canadiens. The Mammoth finished 43-33-6 with 92 points, outscored opponents by 0.34 a game and lost 4-2 to the Vegas Golden Knights in their only series.
The teams met twice in November, and the Mammoth won both: 2-1 in overtime in Buffalo and 5-2 at home. Two games prove nothing.
Pick: no bet until a line is posted
Our number is 56.1% for the Sabres and 43.9% for the Mammoth. The market’s figure is the moneyline with the margin removed. The margin is the few points a book builds into both prices so that they add up to more than 100%.
For the Sabres to be a bet, the market has to rate them at 51.1% or less. With no margin, that is a price of -104. For the Mammoth, the market has to rate them at 38.9% or less, which is +158.
Taking the margin out only lowers a side’s chance. A posted price at or past either of those is a bet whatever the other side reads. A slightly shorter one can clear the threshold too, depending on the pair, and the full page works that out from the posted line.
It rests on 82 games, 41 at home for the Sabres and 41 on the road for the Mammoth, all from last season.
What changes it
The price. If the market, with the margin removed, rates the Sabres anywhere between 51.1% and 61.1%, neither side is a bet and the call is a pass. The full page re-reads the line on the day of the game.
The summer. Two sets of 41 games say how these teams played in 2025-26, and nothing on this page says who dresses on 10 October. Check the lineups before you bet.
