Arizona State Sun Devils

The Sun Devils were underdogs in 22 of 33 games in 2025-26, won nine of them and covered 14. Arizona State’s 20-13 record against the spread was bettered by 34 teams in Division I.

The underdog season

Nine underdog wins returned 3.04 units, several at long prices: Texas Tech 72-67 at home at +295, Texas 87-86 at the Maui Invitational at +230, Kansas 70-60 at home at +215, Oklahoma at +210 and Baylor in the Big 12 tournament at +205. Even the defeats often covered: both losses to Arizona, as 21.5- and 14.5-point underdogs, came inside the number.

Home against road

At home the Sun Devils covered 10 of 15, a rate only 30 Division I teams beat, and one unit on them there made 3.43. Away they went 2-9, and a unit in each of those 11 lost 6.97, the road defeats including 104-76 at BYU and 103-73 at Houston. The neutral-site games, seven of them, went 5-2.

Favorites and January

As favorites they were 8-3 and still lost 0.6 units, because one of the three defeats was Oregon State winning 78-75 at home with Arizona State at -900. January was the season’s one bad month: 2-7 straight up and 4.82 units lost, with home defeats as favorites to Colorado at -130 and West Virginia at -125. The spread held up even then, 5-4. Across all 33 games a unit on Arizona State finished 2.44 up.

Opponents and the total

Colorado and Iowa State beat them twice each and Arizona State covered none of the four; the last was a 91-42 Big 12 tournament defeat to Iowa State. Utah lost both meetings, both covered. The total split almost evenly, 17 unders and 16 overs. The Sun Devils allowed 78.33 points a game; only 62 Division I teams allowed more.
