Texans vs Chargers Best Pick, Prediction and Odds

Take the Chargers +5.5. Even on this season alone my number makes Houston a 2.57-point favourite, and the market wants 5.5.

Yes, the Chargers are 0-7, and I’m taking the points anyway. Houston Texans at Los Angeles Chargers kicks off Sunday 8 November 2026 at 4:05 pm ET in Week 9. Houston comes in 2-5, and the Chargers have not won a game.

The prices and what they say

Across 11 books read at 21:48 UTC on 6 November 2026, the median line is Houston -5.5. Six books have Houston -5.5, five have -6, and the Houston side is priced from -115 to -108. The total is 40.5 at all 11 books.

On the moneyline the median is Houston -250 and the Chargers +204. A book’s two prices add to more than 100% because of the margin, the extra it builds in so it gets paid whichever side wins. With the margin out, those prices give Houston a 68.5% chance to win and the Chargers 31.5%.

On 13 September the books had Houston getting points, at +1.5 and +2.5. Houston -3 first appeared on 29 October, and -5.5 and -6 arrived on 6 November.

How Houston by 0.67 is reached

My method for the side: take half the gap between the two teams’ per-game point differentials, then add 2.5 points for the home team. In 2025 Houston outscored opponents by 6.41 points a game and the Chargers by 1.65. Run through the method, that makes the Chargers a 0.12-point favourite at home. Against Houston -5.5, that is an edge of 5.62 points on the Chargers.

Seven games of 2026 change the picture, and I use them. Houston is at -0.71 a game this season and the Chargers at -10.86, which on its own makes Houston a 2.57-point favourite. Blend the two seasons by games played and Houston is favoured by 0.67. That leaves an edge of 4.83 points.

My rule is a gap of at least two points on 2025 and on the blend, both pointing the same way. Below two I pass, because a number built on season rates carries more error than that. Here both clear easily.

This season so far

The Chargers have scored 99 points and allowed 175. At home they lost 26-14 to Arizona, 26-14 to Las Vegas and 23-17 to Denver. On the road they lost 24-16 at Buffalo, 30-23 at Seattle, 22-6 at Kansas City and 24-9 at the Rams. Against the closing spread they have not covered once: six losses and a push at Seattle, where the line closed at Seattle -7.

Houston is 2-5, with 165 scored and 170 allowed. It is 0-4 at home and 2-1 on the road. It won 26-3 at Tennessee and 34-31 at Jacksonville, and it lost 19-17 at Indianapolis. Those two road wins are its only covers. Its last game was a 27-21 home loss to the Giants as a 10.5-point favourite.

My number reads point differentials. It does not read the 0-7 or the cover record. The Chargers’ failure to cover all season is the case against me, and I’ll say it plainly. Still, a Houston team that has covered twice in seven games is not one I want to lay 5.5 with, and the 2026 number alone is still short of the line.

Houston on the road, the Chargers at home

In 2025 the Chargers went 5-3 at home, scoring 23.5 a game and allowing 19.8. Houston went 5-3 on the road, scoring 19.8 and allowing 15.4. The splits leave out neutral-site games. My method uses neither of them. It works from full-season rates and a flat 2.5 points for home field.

The half it leaves out cuts against me. Houston’s 15.4 allowed on the road is the lowest of the four splits, below its own 19.1 at home and the Chargers’ 19.8 at home and 20.1 away. This season Houston is 2-1 on the road and the Chargers are 0-3 at home. That is three games each, too few to call a rate.

The season around it

Houston went 12-5 in 2025 with a point differential of +109, scoring 23.8 a game and allowing 17.4. It was 5-1 in the AFC South and 7-5 in one-score games. In the playoffs it won 30-6 at Pittsburgh in the Wild Card round, then lost 28-16 at New England in the Divisional round.

The Chargers went 11-6 with a differential of +28, scoring 21.6 and allowing 20.0. They were 5-1 in the AFC West and 6-2 in one-score games, then lost 16-3 at New England in the Wild Card round.

The teams played once in 2025, in Week 17 on Saturday 27 December. Houston won 20-16 in Los Angeles. That game is inside my 2025 number. Four points in a December game is not a case for six this November.

Pick: Chargers +5.5

The edge is 4.83 points on the blend and 5.62 on 2025, against a threshold of two. The median line is Houston -5.5 across 11 books, read at 21:48 UTC on 6 November 2026. Five of those books have Houston -6, so take the Chargers +6 where you can find it. The Houston side runs from -115 to -108. On 13 September, Houston was getting 1.5 to 2.5 points.

What kills the bet

The price first. The Chargers are a bet at +2.67 or better, so +3 is still a bet and +2.5 is a pass. Houston only becomes the bet if it is getting 2.12 points or more.

The risk is the Chargers’ offence. It scored 6 at Kansas City and 9 at the Rams, and a third game like that loses this bet whatever the number says. Read both injury reports and check the lineups before you bet.

The total and the moneyline

My method for the total: each team’s expected points are the average of what it scored a game and what the other side allowed. On 2025 that gives Houston 21.9 and the Chargers 19.5, a total of 41.4. On 2026 alone the total is 43.5, and the blend is 42.01. Against 40.5, the edge on the over is 0.9 on 2025 and 1.51 on the blend. Both are under two. No bet.

The over becomes a bet at 39.4 or lower, and the under at 44.01 or higher. In 2025, eight Houston games went over 40.5 and nine went under. For the Chargers it was 10 over and seven under. This season four of Houston’s seven games have gone over 40.5, against one of the Chargers’ seven. The total was 43.5 on 13 September and has been 40.5 since 6 November.

The moneyline is context only. Houston at -250 and the Chargers at +204 are not bets for me, because I stake the spread.

Pick: Chargers +5.5.
