Sabres vs Ducks Best Pick, Prediction and Odds

No bet on this game. Our number has the Ducks at 48.8% at home, the price has them at 45.7%, and a 3.1-point gap is short of the 5 points we bet on.

The Buffalo Sabres are -130 and the Anaheim Ducks +110 at DraftKings. With the margin out, that is 54.3% for Buffalo and 45.7% for Anaheim. Our number gives the Sabres 51.2% and the Ducks 48.8%. The price leans further toward the visitors than our number does, but not far enough to bet against it.

How 48.8% is reached

Our home win chance is the average of two 2025-26 rates: the home team’s win rate in its own arena and the visitor’s loss rate on the road. Overtime and shootout wins count as wins, and neutral-site games are left out. A side is a bet when our number and the market’s differ by at least 5 points.

The margin is the extra a book builds into both prices so the pair comes to more than 100%. At -130 and +110 they come to 104.1%. Taken out, the Sabres are 54.3% and the Ducks 45.7%.

Alex Lyon is on injured reserve with an upper-body injury (ESPN injury list, entry dated 15 October, return date 31 October; read 28 October 2026, 19:02 UTC). When a team’s starting goalie is out, our method is run again on the games without him. Lyon appeared in 36 of Buffalo’s 82 games last season, ahead of Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen’s 35 and Colten Ellis’s 16, and in 18 of their 41 road games. In the 23 road games he did not play, the Sabres went 14-7-2, a 39.13% road loss rate. That sample clears our minimum of 10 games.

The Ducks went 24-13-4 at home, a 58.5% home win rate. Average 58.5% with 39.13% and the Ducks are 48.8%, the Sabres 51.2%. That is 3.1 points better for Anaheim than the price, against a threshold of 5.

The full road season gives the same answer. The Sabres went 24-13-4 away from home, a 41.5% road loss rate; on that number Anaheim is 50.0% and the gap is 4.3 points. Still a pass. Taking Lyon out makes Buffalo stronger on the road, so the re-run narrows the gap instead of widening it.

Every input is from 2025-26. This season is not in the figures. The Ducks are 5-6-1, 1-3-1 at home, and lost 6-5 in overtime to Vancouver on Tuesday. Lukas Dostal has played nine of their games and Ville Husso four. The Sabres are 5-4-3, 2-1-3 on the road, and won 2-0 in San Jose on Tuesday. Luukkonen has played nine of their games and Ellis four.

Anaheim at home, Buffalo on the road

The Ducks at home scored 3.54 a game and allowed 3.49, a surplus of 0.05. The Sabres on the road scored 3.39 and allowed 2.98, a surplus of 0.41. By goals, Buffalo’s road team was the better of the two halves our method reads.

The halves the method leaves out: Anaheim on the road went 19-20-2, a 46.3% win rate, scoring 3.12 and allowing 3.54. Buffalo at home went 26-10-5, 63.4%, scoring 3.63 and allowing 2.90. Neither half is in our number.

The season around it

Buffalo was the better team over 82 games. The Sabres went 50-23-9 with 109 points and a goal difference of +47, beat Boston 4-2 in the first round, then lost a seven-game series to Montreal. Anaheim went 43-33-6 with 92 points and was outscored by 15, then beat Edmonton 4-2 before losing to Vegas in six.

The Ducks lived in close games. They went 24-6-6 in one-goal games and won 17 of the 23 that went past regulation. Buffalo went 15-3-9 in one-goal games and won 8 of its 17 past 60 minutes. The Sabres won by two goals or more in 35 of 82 games; the Ducks lost by two or more in 27.

The teams split two meetings in 2025-26. Buffalo won 5-3 at home on 10 January, a game in neither half of our number. Anaheim won 6-5 in overtime at home on 22 March, a game inside both full-season halves.

Pick: No bet

No bet on the moneyline. The gap is 3.1 points toward the Ducks on Buffalo’s road games without Lyon, and 4.3 on the full road season, both under the threshold of 5.

The line read Sabres -130 and Ducks +110 on 28 October 2026 at 19:03 UTC, DraftKings via ESPN. It opened at -122 and +102. Since the opening the market gives Buffalo 1.7 points more, 54.3% against 52.6%. At +110 the Ducks are priced close to what our number says, and that is why we pass.

What kills the bet

The pass ends on a longer Anaheim price. At +129 or longer the Ducks are a bet whatever Buffalo is priced at; against the Sabres at -130, they become a bet at +127.

For the Sabres to become the bet, they would have to be +145 or longer against Anaheim at +110, or +117 or longer whatever the Ducks are priced at. They are -130.

Besides Lyon, ESPN’s injury list has Jiri Kulich out with a concussion, Justin Danforth day-to-day with an upper-body injury, and Sam Carrick and Matt Grzelcyk on injured reserve for Buffalo. Anaheim lists Troy Terry, Pavel Mintyukov, Ian Moore and Ryan Poehling on injured reserve. None of these is a goalie, so none changes our number. Check the lineups before you bet.

The total and the puck line

The total is 6.5, over -125 and under +105. The Ducks’ games went over 6.5 in 49 of 82, a 59.8% rate. The Sabres’ games went over in 38 of 82, 46.3%. Anaheim’s home games averaged 7.03 goals and Buffalo’s road games 6.37.

That averages to 53.0% for the over. With the margin removed the over is priced at 53.2% and the under at 46.8%, a gap of 0.2 points toward the under. Pass on the total.

On the puck line, Buffalo is -1.5 at +180 and Anaheim +1.5 at -218, which is 34.3% and 65.7% without the margin. The Sabres won by two or more in 35 of 82 games and the Ducks lost by two or more in 27 of 82. On those rates Sabres -1.5 lands 37.8% of the time against 34.3% priced, a gap of 3.6 points. That is under the threshold. It also points the other way from the moneyline gap. Our method stakes the moneyline only, and on the moneyline the answer is no bet.
