Capitals vs Predators Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
No bet on the Predators. Our prediction has Nashville 3.4 points better than the price, and we need 5.
The Washington Capitals are -112 and the Nashville Predators -108 at DraftKings. With the margin out, that is 50.4% for Washington and 49.6% for Nashville. The price calls this a coin flip with the visitors a fraction ahead. Our number has the Predators at 53.0%, which is closer to the price than our rule allows us to bet.
How 53.0% is reached
Our home win chance is the average of two 2025-26 rates: the home team’s win rate in its own arena and the visitor’s loss rate on the road. Overtime and shootout wins count as wins. Games at a neutral site are left out of both rates.
The Predators went 20-17-3 at Bridgestone Arena, a 50.0% home win rate. The Capitals went 18-19-4 on the road, a 56.1% road loss rate. Averaged, that puts Nashville at 53.0% and Washington at 47.0%. Against the price’s 49.6%, the gap is 3.4 points toward the Predators.
A side is a bet when our number and the market’s differ by at least 5 points. This one does not. The gap of 3.4 is real, and it is too small to clear the threshold.
The margin is the extra a book builds into both prices so the pair comes to more than 100%. At -112 and -108 they come to 104.8%. Taken out, the Capitals are 50.4% and the Predators 49.6%.
Every input is from 2025-26. This season is not in the figures. The Predators are 4-3-5, 3-2-2 at home, and lost 4-3 in a shootout to the New York Islanders on Tuesday 27 October. Juuse Saros has played nine of their games and Justus Annunen two. The Capitals are 6-4-0, 1-2-0 on the road, and beat the Buffalo Sabres 4-3 in overtime on Saturday 24 October. Logan Thompson has played seven of their games and Charlie Lindgren three.
Nashville at home, Washington on the road
The Predators at home scored 3.12 a game and allowed 3.27, a deficit of 0.15. The Capitals on the road scored 3.02 and allowed 3.29, a deficit of 0.27. Both halves in our number belong to teams that were outscored. Washington was outscored by more.
The halves the method leaves out point the other way on Washington. The Capitals at home went 25-11-5, a 61.0% win rate, scoring 3.39 and allowing 2.66, a surplus of 0.73. Nashville on the road went 17-16-7, 42.5%, scoring 3.0 and allowing 3.33. The Washington team that played at home was the best of these four halves, and it is not in this number.
The season around it
Washington was the better team over 82 games. The Capitals went 43-30-9 with 95 points and outscored opponents by 19. The Predators went 38-34-10 with 86 points and were outscored by 22. Both missed the playoffs: Washington in the Eastern Conference, Nashville in the Western.
Nashville lived in close games. The Predators went 20-8-10 in one-goal games and won 10 of the 20 that went past regulation. Washington went 13-8-9 in one-goal games and won 6 of its 15 past 60 minutes. The Capitals won by two goals or more in 30 of 82, the Predators lost by two or more in 26 of 82.
The two teams split their two games in 2025-26. Nashville won 3-2 at home on Sunday 11 January 2026; that game is inside both halves of our number. Washington won 4-2 at home on Thursday 5 February 2026; that one is in neither half.
Pick: No bet
No bet on the moneyline. The gap is 3.4 points toward Nashville against a threshold of 5. The price is right enough here, and our number says so: at 53.0% against 49.6%, the Predators are slightly underpriced, by less than the size of edge we bet.
The line read Capitals -112 and Predators -108 on 28 October 2026 at 19:03 UTC, DraftKings via ESPN. It opened at the same prices and has not moved.
What kills the bet
The bet appears with a longer Nashville price. At +109 or longer the Predators are a bet whatever Washington is priced at; against Washington at -112, they become a bet at +105 or longer. They are -108.
For the Capitals to become the bet, they would have to be +138 or longer whatever Nashville is priced at. They are -112.
ESPN’s injury list, read 28 October 2026, has Vincent Desharnais, Rasmus Sandin and Patrick Thomas on injured reserve for Washington. Nashville lists no one. No goalie is on either list, so nothing re-runs the method. Check the lineups before you bet.
The total and the puck line
The total is 6.5, over +100 and under -120. The Predators’ games went over 6.5 in 35 of 82, the Capitals’ in 34 of 82. Nashville’s home games averaged 6.39 goals, Washington’s road games 6.31.
That is 42.7% and 41.5%, an average of 42.1% for the over. With the margin removed the over is priced at 47.8% and the under at 52.2%, so our number leans to the under by 5.8 points. Our method stakes the moneyline only. This is a lean under, not a bet.
On the puck line, Washington is -1.5 at +200 and Nashville +1.5 at -245, which is 31.9% and 68.1% without the margin. Over the full season the Capitals won by two or more in 30 of 82 games and the Predators lost by two or more in 26 of 82. Averaged, Capitals -1.5 lands 34.1% of the time against 31.9% priced, a gap of 2.2 points. That is a lean, and a thin one. No bet on this game.
