Blue Jackets vs Hurricanes Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
No bet on the Blue Jackets. Our number puts Columbus 4.7 points above the price, short of the 5 points a bet needs, so the price on Carolina at home is close enough to right.
The Carolina Hurricanes are -218 and the Columbus Blue Jackets +180 at DraftKings. With the margin out, that is 65.7% for Carolina and 34.3% for Columbus. We have Carolina at 61.0% and Columbus at 39.0%. The gap is real, it points at the visitors, and it is too small to bet.
How 61.0% is reached
Our home win chance is the average of two 2025-26 rates: the home team’s win rate in its own arena and the visitor’s loss rate on the road. Overtime and shootout wins count as wins, and neutral-site games are left out. A side is a bet when our number and the market’s differ by at least 5 points.
The Hurricanes went 29-10-2 at home last season, a 70.7% home win rate. The Blue Jackets went 20-17-4 on the road, a 51.2% road loss rate. Average the two and Carolina is 61.0%, Columbus 39.0%. Against the price, that is 4.7 points better for Columbus.
The margin is the extra a book builds into both prices so the pair comes to more than 100%. At -218 and +180 they come to 104.3%. Taken out, the Hurricanes are 65.7% and the Blue Jackets 34.3%.
The price has moved since it opened at Carolina -198 and Columbus +164. The market now gives the Hurricanes 2.1 points more than it did at the open, 65.7% against 63.7%. That move widened our gap toward Columbus. It did not widen it enough.
No absence on either list changes our number. Every input is from 2025-26, and this season is outside the method. Carolina is 10-2-2, 3-1-1 at home, and beat the Boston Bruins 2-1 on Tuesday 27 October. Pyotr Kochetkov has played eight of its games in goal and Brandon Bussi six. Columbus is 5-5-0, 1-2-0 on the road, and won 4-3 in overtime at Philadelphia the same night. Jet Greaves and Cam Talbot have played six games each.
Carolina at home, Columbus on the road
The Hurricanes at home scored 3.93 a game and allowed 3.07, a surplus of 0.86. The Blue Jackets on the road scored 2.88 and allowed 3.10, a deficit of 0.22. Those are the two halves inside our number, and they sit far apart.
The halves the method leaves out: Carolina on the road went 24-12-5, a 58.5% win rate, scoring 3.29 and allowing 2.78. Columbus at home went 20-13-8, 48.8%, scoring 3.29 and allowing 3.07. The Blue Jackets won at the same 48.8% rate home and away. Their goal surplus swung from 0.22 at home to minus 0.22 on the road.
The season around it
Carolina went 53-22-7 with 113 points and a goal difference of 56, scoring 3.61 a game and allowing 2.93. Its playoffs ran through four series: 4-0 against Ottawa, 4-0 against Philadelphia, 4-1 against Montreal and 4-2 against Vegas. Columbus went 40-30-12 with 92 points, scored 3.09 and allowed 3.09 for a goal difference of 0, and missed the playoffs.
The Hurricanes went 24-4-7 in one-goal games and won 14 of the 21 that went past regulation. The Blue Jackets went 18-13-12 in one-goal games and won 12 of their 24 past 60 minutes. Carolina won by two goals or more in 29 of 82 games. Columbus lost by two or more in 17 of 82.
Carolina won three of the four meetings in 2025-26. The two in Raleigh went to the Hurricanes, 4-1 on Tuesday 9 December 2025 and 5-1 on Thursday 2 April 2026, and both sit inside both halves of our number. In Columbus, the Blue Jackets won 5-1 on Tuesday 17 March 2026 and Carolina won 5-2 on Tuesday 31 March 2026. Those two are in neither half.
Pick: No bet
No bet on the moneyline. The gap is 4.7 points toward Columbus, against a threshold of 5.
The line read Hurricanes -218 and Blue Jackets +180 on 28 October 2026 at 19:02 UTC, DraftKings via ESPN. It opened at -198 and +164.
What kills the bet
Here, what makes one. Columbus becomes the bet at +183 or longer against Carolina at -218, three cents from the current +180. At +194 or longer the Blue Jackets are a bet whatever Carolina is priced at. If the market keeps moving toward the Hurricanes, check the price again before puck drop.
For Carolina to become the bet, it would have to be -127 or longer whatever Columbus is priced at. Against Columbus at +180, the threshold is +120. Carolina is -218.
ESPN’s injury list has Taylor Hall and Alexander Nikishin out for Carolina, and Jordan Staal on injured reserve with a calf injury. It lists no Columbus players. None of these is a goalie, and none changes our number. Check the lineups before you bet.
The total and the puck line
The total is 6.5, over +114 and under -135. The Hurricanes’ games went over 6.5 in 44 of 82, a 53.7% rate, and the Blue Jackets’ in 37 of 82, 45.1%. Carolina’s home games averaged 7.0 goals and Columbus’s road games 5.98.
That averages to 49.4% for the over. With the margin removed the over is priced at 44.9% and the under at 55.1%, so our number leans to the over by 4.5 points. Under the threshold. Pass on the total.
On the puck line, Carolina is -1.5 at +110 and Columbus +1.5 at -130, which is 45.7% and 54.3% without the margin. Carolina won by two or more in 29 of 82 games and Columbus lost by two or more in 17 of 82. On those two rates the Hurricanes cover 28.0% of the time, a gap of 17.7 points toward Blue Jackets +1.5. Our method stakes the moneyline only, so this is a lean on the same side as the moneyline gap. It does not turn into a bet. The moneyline is 4.7 points from the price, and the call is no bet.
