Flyers vs Capitals Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
No bet: Logan Thompson is out, and the Capitals have played only 8 home games without him, too few for the number to describe this team. Our Flyers vs Capitals prediction is a pass on the moneyline.
The Philadelphia Flyers are +190 and the Washington Capitals -230 at DraftKings. With the margin out, that is 33.1% for Philadelphia and 66.9% for Washington. Our number, run without Thompson, has Washington at 59.5% and Philadelphia at 40.5%. That is a 7.4-point gap toward the Flyers, and it rests on 8 games.
How 59.5% is reached
Our home win chance is the average of two 2025-26 rates: the home team’s win rate in its own arena and the visitor’s loss rate on the road. Overtime and shootout wins count as wins. Neutral-site games are left out. A side is a bet when our number and the market’s differ by at least 5 points.
Thompson is on injured reserve with a lower-body injury (ESPN injury list, entry dated 26 October 2026, 16:22 UTC, read 27 October 2026, 19:03 UTC; return date given as 28 October). When a team’s starting goalie is out, our method is run again on the games without him. Thompson appeared in 58 of Washington’s 82 games last season, against 21 for Charlie Lindgren and 4 for Clay Stevenson. He played 33 of the 41 home games the method reads.
That leaves 8 home games without him. The Capitals went 6-2-0 in them, a 75.0% home win rate. The Flyers lost 43.9% of their road games. Average 75.0% with 43.9% and Washington is 59.5%. Our minimum for an NHL goalie re-run is 10 games at that venue without him. Eight is below it, so the 7.4-point gap is a measurement we do not stake.
The full home season points the same way, harder. The Capitals went 25-11-5 at Capital One Arena, a 61.0% home win rate over 41 games. On that number Washington is 52.4%, and the gap is 14.5 points toward Philadelphia. That number assumes Thompson in goal for most of the games, and he is listed out.
The margin is the extra a book builds into both prices so the pair comes to more than 100%. At -230 and +190 they come to 104.2%. Taken out, the Capitals are 66.9% and the Flyers 33.1%.
Every input is from 2025-26. This season is not in the figures. The Capitals are 6-2-0… correction to the record as given: 6-4-0, and 5-2-0 at home, and beat Buffalo 4-3 in overtime on Saturday 24 October. Thompson has played seven of their games and Lindgren three. The Flyers are 3-7-3, 1-4-1 on the road, and lost 5-4 to Anaheim on Saturday 24 October. Joseph Woll has played seven of their games and Dan Vladar six.
Washington at home, Philadelphia on the road
Over the full season the Capitals at home scored 3.39 a game and allowed 2.66, a surplus of 0.73. The Flyers on the road scored 3.39 and allowed 3.17, a surplus of 0.22. Philadelphia went 23-14-4 away from home, a 56.1% road win rate.
The halves the method leaves out: Washington on the road went 18-19-4, a 43.9% win rate, scoring 3.02 and allowing 3.29. Philadelphia at home went 20-13-8, 48.8%, scoring 2.71 and allowing 2.76. The Flyers were the better team away from their own arena, and that is the half our number uses.
Over the full season these two finished 3 points apart. Philadelphia went 43-27-12 with 98 points and outscored opponents by 7, then beat Pittsburgh 4-2 in the playoffs before losing 4-0 to Carolina. Washington went 43-30-9 with 95 points, outscored opponents by 19, and missed the playoffs.
The Flyers lived in close games. They went 17-5-12 in one-goal games and won 16 of the 28 that went past regulation. Washington went 13-8-9 in one-goal games and won 6 of its 15 past 60 minutes. The Capitals won by two goals or more in 30 of 82 games; the Flyers lost by two or more in 22 of 82.
The teams split four meetings in 2025-26, each winning both games in its own arena. Philadelphia won 4-2 on 3 February and 4-1 on 11 March at home; those are in neither half of our number. Washington won 3-1 on 25 February and 6-4 on 31 March at Capital One Arena; those are in both halves of the full-season number.
Pick: No bet
No bet on the moneyline. The re-run gap is 7.4 points toward the Flyers against a threshold of 5, but it comes from 8 home games without Thompson, under our minimum of 10. The full-season gap of 14.5 describes a team with Thompson in goal.
The line read Flyers +190 and Capitals -230 on 27 October 2026 at 19:03 UTC, DraftKings via ESPN. It opened at +195 and -238. Since the open, the market gives the Flyers 0.6 points more, 33.1% against 32.5%.
What kills the bet
There is no bet to kill. The call turns on Thompson, not on the price. ESPN lists 28 October, game day, as his return date. If he starts, there is no absence to re-run on, and the method reads the full season, where the gap is 14.5 points toward Philadelphia.
For reference, on the 8-game number the Flyers would be a bet at +182 or longer whatever Washington is priced at, and at +161 or longer against -230. The Capitals would need -120 or longer, or +142 or longer against +190. None of that applies while the sample stays at 8.
Besides Thompson, ESPN’s injury list has Vincent Desharnais, Rasmus Sandin and Patrick Thomas on injured reserve for Washington. Philadelphia lists Rasmus Ristolainen, Owen Tippett, Travis Konecny and Nikita Grebenkin on injured reserve. No other goalie is on either list. Check the lineups before you bet.
The total and the puck line
The total is 6.5, over +110 and under -130. The Capitals’ games went over 6.5 in 34 of 82, the Flyers’ in 34 of 82. Washington’s home games averaged 6.05 goals, Philadelphia’s road games 6.56.
That is 41.5% for the over from both sides. With the margin removed the over is priced at 45.7% and the under at 54.3%, so our number leans to the under by 4.3 points. That is under the threshold of 5. Pass on the total.
On the puck line, Washington is -1.5 at +100 and Philadelphia +1.5 at -120, which is 47.8% and 52.2% without the margin. Over the full season the Capitals won by two goals or more in 30 of 82 games, and the Flyers lost by two or more in 22 of 82. Averaged, Capitals -1.5 lands 31.7% of the time against 47.8% priced, a gap of 16.1 points toward Flyers +1.5. Our method stakes the moneyline only, so this is a lean, and it is built on full seasons with Thompson in them. No bet on this game.
