Senators vs Sabres Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
Bet the Sabres on the moneyline. With Alex Lyon and Linus Ullmark both out, our number makes Buffalo a 69.2% winner at home. The price says 57.2%.
The Buffalo Sabres are -148 and the Ottawa Senators +124 at DraftKings. With the margin out, that is 57.2% for Buffalo and 42.8% for Ottawa. Our number is 69.2% and 30.8%, a gap of 12.0 points toward the Sabres. A side is a bet when the gap reaches 5 points. This one is more than twice that.
How 69.2% is reached
Our home win chance is the average of two 2025-26 rates: the home team’s win rate in its own arena and the visitor’s loss rate on the road. Overtime and shootout wins count as wins, and neutral-site games are left out.
Two goalies are on injured reserve, according to ESPN’s injury list read 3 November 2026 at 16:33 UTC. Lyon (upper body) has been listed since 15 October, with 22 November given as his return. Ullmark (lower body) has been listed since 22 October, with 7 November given as his return. When a goalie is out, the method is run again on the games without him, provided there are at least 10.
Lyon appeared in 36 of Buffalo’s 82 games last season, ahead of Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen’s 35 and Colten Ellis’s 16. He played 18 of the 41 home games. In the 23 home games without him, the Sabres went 16-4-3, a 69.57% home win rate.
Ullmark appeared in 49 of Ottawa’s 82, including 25 of the 41 road games. The other goalies were Leevi Merilainen with 20, James Reimer with 14, Mads Sogaard with 2 and Hunter Shepard with 1. In the 16 road games without Ullmark, the Senators went 5-9-2, a 68.75% road loss rate. Sixteen clears the minimum of 10. It is still a small sample, and the read should be taken at that size.
Averaging 69.57% with 68.75% puts the Sabres at 69.2% and the Senators at 30.8%.
The full season does not give the same answer. The Sabres went 26-10-5 at KeyBank Center, a 63.4% home win rate. The Senators lost 48.8% of their road games. On those rates Buffalo is 56.1% against 57.2% priced, 1.1 points short and a pass. Two absences turn a pass into a bet. That is the whole argument.
The margin is the extra a book builds into both prices so the pair comes to more than 100%. At -148 and +124 they come to 104.3%.
Every input is from 2025-26, so this season is outside the method. The Sabres are 7-4-3, 3-3-0 at home, and won 3-2 at Los Angeles on Saturday 31 October. Luukkonen has played 10 of their games and Ellis 5. The Senators are 9-6-1, 4-4-1 on the road, and lost 6-3 at Anaheim on Sunday 1 November. Ullmark has played 8 of their games, Samuel Ersson 7 and Jonas Johansson 4.
Buffalo at home, Ottawa on the road
Over the full season the Sabres at home scored 3.63 a game and allowed 2.9, a surplus of 0.73. The Senators on the road scored 3.39 and allowed 3.37, a surplus of 0.02. At that rate Ottawa away from home was close to even.
The method leaves out two halves. Buffalo on the road went 24-13-4, a 58.5% win rate, scoring 3.39 and allowing 2.98. Ottawa at home went 23-12-6, 56.1%, scoring 3.39 and allowing 2.63. Ottawa scored at the same rate in both halves, so the split between them comes from goals allowed.
The Sabres finished 50-23-9 with 109 points and a goal difference of +47. In the playoffs they beat Boston 4-2 and then lost 4-3 to Montreal. The Senators finished 44-27-11 with 99 points and +32, then were swept 4-0 by Carolina.
Close games split them less than the records do. Buffalo went 15-3-9 in one-goal games and won 8 of the 17 that went past regulation. Ottawa went 16-10-11 and won 6 of its 17. The Sabres won by two goals or more 35 times in 82, and the Senators lost by two or more 17 times.
Buffalo won two of the three meetings last season. The first was 8-4 in Buffalo on 15 October 2025, and the second was 3-2 in overtime in Ottawa on 23 December. Ottawa won the third 4-1 at home on 2 April 2026. The two games in Ottawa are in neither half of our number. The October game is in both full-season halves.
Pick: Sabres -148
Bet the Sabres on the moneyline at -148. The gap is 12.0 points toward Buffalo on the re-run, against a threshold of 5. On the full season the gap is 1.1 points the other way, a pass.
The line read Sabres -148 and Senators +124 on 3 November 2026 at 16:33 UTC, DraftKings via ESPN. It opened at the same -148 and +124 and has not moved.
What kills the bet
A shorter Buffalo price would kill the bet. At -179 or longer, the Sabres are a bet whatever Ottawa is priced at. Against Ottawa at +124, they stay a bet down to -405.
For the Senators to become the bet, they would need +287 or longer whatever Buffalo is priced at, or +381 or longer against Buffalo at -148. They are +124.
The re-run rests on both goalies being out. If either one dresses, the bet loses its basis, because the full season with both goalies in it is a pass.
ESPN’s list also has Zach Benson day-to-day (undisclosed) and Konsta Helenius out (upper body) for Buffalo. Justin Danforth and Matt Grzelcyk are on injured reserve. For Ottawa, Andre Burakovsky, Warren Foegele and William Eklund are on injured reserve. Check the lineups before you bet.
The total and the puck line
The total is 6.5, with the over at -115 and the under at -105. Buffalo’s games went over 6.5 in 38 of 82, which is 46.3%. Ottawa’s went over in 40 of 82, which is 48.8%. Buffalo’s home games averaged 6.53 goals and Ottawa’s road games 6.76.
That averages to 47.6% for the over. With the margin removed, the over is priced at 51.1% and the under at 48.9%. Our number leans under by 3.5 points, below the threshold. Pass on the total.
On the puck line, Buffalo is -1.5 at +160 and Ottawa +1.5 at -192, which is 36.9% and 63.1% without the margin. Over the full season the Sabres won by two or more in 35 of 82, and the Senators lost by two or more in 17 of 82. That puts Sabres -1.5 at 31.7%, 5.2 points below the price, a lean to Senators +1.5. Those counts are full-season, with neither goalie taken out. That is the same basis on which the moneyline is a pass. Our method stakes the moneyline only, so this is not a bet. One bet on this game: the Sabres at -148.
