Penguins vs Canadiens Best Pick, Prediction and Odds

Bet the Penguins at +130. Our prediction makes Pittsburgh a 47.0% winner in Montreal, and the price says 41.7%.

The Pittsburgh Penguins at Montreal Canadiens is Saturday 31 October at 7:00 PM ET, at the Bell Centre. DraftKings has the Canadiens at -155 and the Penguins at +130. With the margin out, that is 58.3% for Montreal and 41.7% for Pittsburgh. Our number is 53.0% and 47.0%. The gap is 5.3 points toward the Penguins, and the whole argument rests on it.

How 53.0% is reached

Our home win chance is the average of two 2025-26 rates: the home team’s win rate in its own arena and the visitor’s loss rate on the road. Overtime and shootout wins count as wins. Games at a neutral site are left out.

The Canadiens went 24-15-2 at the Bell Centre, a 58.5% home win rate. The Penguins went 21-12-7 on the road, a 52.5% win rate and a 47.5% road loss rate, with overtime and shootout losses counted as losses. Average 58.5% with 47.5% and Montreal is 53.0%, Pittsburgh 47.0%. That is 5.3 points better for the Penguins than the price.

The margin is the extra a book builds into both prices so the pair adds to more than 100%. At -155 and +130 the pair comes to 104.3%. Taken out, Montreal is 58.3% and Pittsburgh 41.7%.

The rule: a side is a bet when our number and the market’s differ by at least 5 points. This one clears it at 5.3. It is a bet, and a thin one.

Every input is from 2025-26. This season is not in the figures. Montreal is 8-3-2, 3-2-1 at home, and won 5-2 at Dallas on Thursday 29 October. Jacob Fowler has played seven of their games and Jakub Dobes six. Pittsburgh is 5-6-2, and 1-5-1 on the road, and lost 4-3 in overtime to the Utah Mammoth on Thursday. Arturs Silovs has played nine of their games and Sergei Murashov four. Seven road games is too few to say anything, and the method does not use them.

Montreal at home, Pittsburgh on the road

Over the full season the Canadiens at home scored 3.34 a game and allowed 3.1, a surplus of 0.24. The Penguins on the road scored 3.55 and allowed 3.08, a surplus of 0.47. On goals per game, the visiting half is the stronger of the two.

The halves the method leaves out: Montreal on the road went 24-9-8, also a 58.5% win rate, scoring 3.56 and allowing 3.15. Pittsburgh at home went 19-13-8, a 47.5% win rate, scoring 3.65 and allowing 3.58. The Penguins won more often away than in their own arena, and the away half is the one in our number.

Over the full season Montreal went 48-24-10 with 106 points and a goal difference of +27, scoring 3.45 a game and allowing 3.12. The Canadiens then beat Tampa Bay 4-3 and Buffalo 4-3 in the playoffs before losing 4-1 to Carolina. Pittsburgh went 41-25-16 with 98 points and a goal difference of +25, scoring 3.57 and allowing 3.27, and lost 4-2 to Philadelphia in the first round.

Close games split them. Montreal went 23-6-10 in one-goal games and won 14 of the 24 that went past regulation. Pittsburgh went 12-7-16 in one-goal games and won 7 of its 23 past 60 minutes. Both teams lost by two goals or more in 18 of 82 games.

Montreal won two of the three games between them in 2025-26. The Canadiens won 4-2 in Pittsburgh on 11 December and 4-0 in Montreal on 20 December. The Penguins won 4-3 in a shootout at home on 21 December. Only the 20 December game is inside our number, as a Montreal home win and a Pittsburgh road loss. The two in Pittsburgh are in neither half.

Pick: Penguins +130

Bet the Penguins on the moneyline at +130. The gap is 5.3 points toward Pittsburgh, against a threshold of 5.

The line read Penguins +130 and Canadiens -155 on 30 October 2026 at 19:04 UTC, DraftKings via ESPN. It opened at Penguins +124 and Canadiens -148. With the margin out, the opening prices gave Montreal 57.2% and Pittsburgh 42.8%. Since the open the market has moved 1.1 points toward Montreal.

What kills the bet

A shorter Pittsburgh price. Against Montreal at -155, the Penguins stay a bet down to +127. Below that, there is no bet. At +138 or longer the Penguins are a bet whatever Montreal is priced at. The margin for error here is three cents on the price.

For the Canadiens to become the bet, they would have to be +149 or longer against Pittsburgh at +130, or +109 or longer whatever the Penguins are priced at. They are -155.

The rest is on the ice, and none of it is in our number. ESPN’s injury list has Nick Suzuki out for Montreal with an upper-body injury, Mike Matheson day-to-day, and goalie Sam Montembeault, Ivan Demidov and Bryce Pickford on injured reserve. For Pittsburgh it has Justin Brazeau out, and Elmer Soderblom, Bryan Rust, Trevor van Riemsdyk and Ryan Graves on injured reserve. Check the lineups before you bet.

The total and the puck line

The total is 6.5, over -118 and under -102. Montreal’s games went over 6.5 in 44 of 82, a 53.7% rate. Pittsburgh’s went over in 47 of 82, 57.3%. Montreal’s home games averaged 6.44 goals and Pittsburgh’s road games 6.63.

Averaged, our number has the over at 55.5%. With the margin removed the over is priced at 51.7% and the under at 48.3%, so our number leans to the over by 3.8 points. That is under the threshold of 5. Pass on the total.

On the puck line, Montreal is -1.5 at +160 and Pittsburgh +1.5 at -192, which is 36.9% and 63.1% without the margin. Over the full season the Canadiens won by two goals or more in 25 of 82 games, and the Penguins lost by two or more in 18 of 82. Averaged, Canadiens -1.5 lands 26.2% of the time against 36.9% priced, a gap of 10.7 points toward Penguins +1.5 at -192. Our method stakes the moneyline only, so this is a lean on the same side. One bet on this game: the Penguins at +130.
