Golden Knights vs Red Wings Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
Take the Red Wings on the moneyline. Our number makes Detroit a 52.4% winner at home, and the price makes them 43.7%.
The Detroit Red Wings are +120 and the Vegas Golden Knights -142 at DraftKings. With the margin out, that is 43.7% for Detroit and 56.3% for Vegas. The price has the visitors as a clear favourite. Our number has the Red Wings slightly ahead, and the gap is 8.7 points.
How 52.4% is reached
Our home win chance is the average of two 2025-26 rates: the home team’s win rate in its own arena and the visitor’s loss rate on the road. Overtime and shootout wins count as wins. Neutral-site games are left out of both rates.
The Red Wings went 21-16-4 at Little Caesars Arena, a 51.2% home win rate. The Golden Knights went 19-14-8 on the road, a 53.7% road loss rate. The average puts Detroit at 52.4% and Vegas at 47.6%, which is 8.7 points better for the Red Wings than the price.
The margin is the extra a book builds into both prices so the pair adds to more than 100%. At +120 and -142 the two prices come to 104.1%. Taken out, the Red Wings are 43.7% and the Golden Knights 56.3%.
Every input is from 2025-26. This season is outside the method, and so far it favours Vegas. The Golden Knights are 10-5-2, 4-2-2 on the road, and won 3-2 at Pittsburgh on Tuesday 3 November. Carter Hart has played nine of their games and Adin Hill eight. The Red Wings are 7-6-3, 4-4-1 at home, and lost 4-2 at Tampa Bay on the same night. John Gibson has played 11 of their games and Daniil Tarasov six.
Detroit at home, Vegas on the road
Our number reads win rates, and goals tell a thinner story. At home the Red Wings scored 3.10 a game and allowed 3.34, a deficit of 0.24. Vegas on the road scored 2.90 and allowed 3.00, a deficit of 0.10. Both halves the method uses were outscored. Detroit still won 51.2% of its home games.
The halves the method leaves out: Detroit on the road went 20-15-6, a 48.8% win rate, scoring 2.78 and allowing 2.95. Vegas at home went 20-12-9, also 48.8%, scoring 3.56 and allowing 3.10. The Golden Knights were a much stronger scoring team in their own arena, and that half is not in our number.
The season around it
Over the full 2025-26 season Vegas finished with 95 points at 39-26-17 and outscored opponents by 15. In the playoffs the Golden Knights beat the Utah Mammoth 4-2, the Anaheim Ducks 4-2 and the Colorado Avalanche 4-0, then lost 4-2 to the Carolina Hurricanes. Detroit went 41-31-10 with 92 points, was outscored by 17, and missed the playoffs.
Detroit was better in tight games. The Red Wings went 18-5-10 in one-goal games and won 11 of the 21 that went past regulation. Vegas went 16-10-17 in one-goal games and won 9 of its 26 past 60 minutes. The Golden Knights lost by two goals or more in 16 of 82 games; the Red Wings did so in 26.
Vegas won both meetings in 2025-26. The 1-0 win on 4 November 2025 was in Vegas, so it sits in neither half of our number. The 4-3 overtime win on 4 March 2026 was at Little Caesars Arena, and it counts in both halves: a Detroit home loss and a Vegas road win.
Pick: Red Wings +120
Bet the Red Wings on the moneyline at +120. Our threshold for a bet is a gap of 5 points between our number and the market’s. The gap here is 8.7 points toward Detroit.
The line read Red Wings +120 and Golden Knights -142 on 4 November 2026 at 16:32 UTC, DraftKings via ESPN. It opened at the same prices, +120 and -142, and has not moved.
What kills the bet
A shorter Detroit price. At +111 or longer the Red Wings are a bet whatever Vegas is priced at; against Vegas at -142, they stay a bet down to -112.
For the Golden Knights to become the bet, they would have to be +135 or longer. They are -142.
The rest is on the ice, and none of it is in our number. ESPN’s injury list has Gibson day-to-day with a lower-body injury, and he has started most of Detroit’s games this season. Dylan Larkin is on injured reserve, listed with a suspension. Marco Kasper (upper body) and Mason Appleton (undisclosed) are also on injured reserve, and Albert Johansson is day-to-day. Vegas lists only Parker Wotherspoon, on injured reserve with an upper-body injury. Check the lineups before you bet.
The total and the puck line
The total is 5.5, over -135 and under +114. Detroit’s games went over 5.5 in 49 of 82, the Vegas games in 47 of 82. The Red Wings’ home games averaged 6.44 goals, the Golden Knights’ road games 5.90.
That is 59.8% and 57.3%, an average of 58.5% for the over. With the margin removed the over is priced at 55.1% and the under at 44.9%. Our number leans to the over by 3.4 points, under the threshold of 5. Pass on the total.
On the puck line, Vegas is -1.5 at +180 and Detroit +1.5 at -218, which is 34.3% and 65.7% without the margin. Over 2025-26 the Golden Knights won by two goals or more in 23 of 82 games, and the Red Wings lost by two or more in 26 of 82. Averaged, Vegas -1.5 lands 29.9% of the time against 34.3% priced, a gap of 4.4 points toward Red Wings +1.5. Our method stakes the moneyline only, so this is a lean on the same side. One bet on this game: the Red Wings at +120.
