Hurricanes vs Islanders Best Pick, Prediction and Odds

Bet the Islanders at +140. Our number makes New York a 47.6% winner at home; the price says 40.0%.

The New York Islanders are +140 and the Carolina Hurricanes -166 at DraftKings, read 4 November 2026 at 16:32 UTC. With the margin out, that is 40.0% for New York and 60.0% for Carolina. Our Hurricanes vs Islanders prediction has the game close to even, with Carolina at 52.4%. The 7.6-point gap toward the home side is the whole argument.

How 47.6% is reached

Our home win chance is the average of two 2025-26 rates: the home team’s win rate in its own arena and the visitor’s loss rate on the road. Overtime and shootout wins count as wins. Neutral-site games are left out. A side is a bet when our number and the market’s differ by at least 5 points.

The Islanders went 22-17-2 at UBS Arena, a 53.7% home win rate. The Hurricanes went 24-12-5 on the road, a 41.5% road loss rate. Average the two and New York is 47.6%, Carolina 52.4%. That is 7.6 points better for the Islanders than the price, against a threshold of 5.

The margin is the extra a book builds into both prices so the pair adds to more than 100%. At +140 and -166 the two come to 104.1%. With it taken out, the Islanders are 40.0% and the Hurricanes 60.0%.

Every input is from 2025-26. This season is not in the figures. The Islanders are 7-5-2 and 4-2-1 at home, and lost 4-0 to Edmonton on Saturday 31 October. Ilya Sorokin has played 10 of their games and Semyon Varlamov 4. The Hurricanes are 12-3-2 and 7-2-1 on the road, and lost 4-1 at Nashville on Tuesday 3 November. Pyotr Kochetkov has played 11 of their games and Brandon Bussi 6. Carolina’s start is strong, and none of it moves our number.

New York at home, Carolina on the road

The Islanders at home scored 2.93 a game and allowed 2.98, a deficit of 0.05. The Hurricanes on the road scored 3.29 and allowed 2.78, a surplus of 0.51. That road surplus is the better figure. It still came with 17 road games that were not wins, and that loss rate is what the method reads.

The halves the method leaves out: Carolina at home went 29-10-2, a 70.7% win rate, scoring 3.93 and allowing 3.07, a surplus of 0.86. New York on the road went 21-17-3, 51.2%, scoring 2.76 and allowing 2.90. The Hurricanes were at their best in their own arena, and that half is not in our number.

The season around it

Over the full 2025-26 season Carolina was the stronger team by every total. The Hurricanes went 53-22-7 with 113 points and a goal difference of +56. In the playoffs they swept Ottawa and Philadelphia 4-0, beat Montreal 4-1, then played a 4-2 series with Vegas. The Islanders went 43-34-5 with 91 points, a goal difference of -8, and missed the playoffs.

Both teams won tight games. New York went 27-11-5 in one-goal games and won 14 of the 19 that went past regulation. Carolina went 24-4-7 in one-goal games and won 14 of its 21 past 60 minutes. The Islanders lost by two goals or more in 23 of 82 games.

Carolina won all three meetings in 2025-26. Two were in Raleigh, 6-2 on 30 October 2025 and 4-3 on 4 April 2026, and those are in neither half of our number. The third, a 2-1 Hurricanes win in the Islanders’ arena on 14 April 2026, is in both halves.

Pick: Islanders +140

Bet the Islanders on the moneyline at +140. The gap is 7.6 points toward New York, against a threshold of 5.

The line read Islanders +140 and Hurricanes -166 on 4 November 2026 at 16:32 UTC, DraftKings via ESPN. It opened at the same prices, +140 and -166, so the market has not moved since opening.

What kills the bet

A shorter Islanders price. At +135 or longer New York is a bet whatever Carolina is priced at; against Carolina at -166, the Islanders stay a bet down to +116.

For the Hurricanes to become the bet, they would have to be +111 or longer whatever New York is priced at, or +166 or longer against the Islanders at +140. They are -166.

The rest is on the ice. ESPN’s injury list has Ryan Pulock out for New York with an upper-body injury, and Matias Maccelli, Calum Ritchie, Alexander Romanov and Mathew Barzal on injured reserve. Carolina lists Taylor Hall as day-to-day with an upper-body injury, Alexander Nikishin out for a reason not related to injury, and Jordan Staal on injured reserve with a calf injury. Neither list names a goalie. None of these absences changes our number. Check the lineups before you bet.

The total and the puck line

The total is 5.5, over -122 and under +102. The Islanders’ games went over 5.5 in 41 of 82, the Hurricanes’ in 53 of 82. New York’s home games averaged 5.91 goals, Carolina’s road games 6.07.

That is 50.0% and 64.6%, an average of 57.3% for the over. With the margin removed the over is priced at 52.6% and the under at 47.4%. Our number leans to the over by 4.7 points, under the threshold of 5. Pass on the total.

On the puck line, Carolina is -1.5 at +150 and New York +1.5 at -180, which is 38.4% and 61.6% without the margin. Over the full season the Hurricanes won by two goals or more in 29 of 82 games, and the Islanders lost by two or more in 23 of 82. Averaged, Hurricanes -1.5 lands 31.7% of the time against 38.4% priced, a gap of 6.6 points toward Islanders +1.5 at -180. Our method stakes the moneyline only, so this is a lean, on the same side. One bet on this game: the Islanders at +140.
