Oilers at Sharks Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
Our number has the Sharks at 52.4%. They are a bet at +111 or longer, the Oilers at +135 or longer.
No line has been posted for Edmonton at San Jose as of 28 September 2026. Our number puts the San Jose Sharks’ win chance at 52.4% and the Edmonton Oilers’ at 47.6%. That is close to even. A side is a bet when our number and the market’s are 5 points or more apart, so what matters here is how the market prices it.
How the number is built
The method is one clause: our home win chance is the average of the home team’s 2025-26 home win rate and the visitor’s 2025-26 road loss rate, with a win in overtime or a shootout counted as a win.
The Sharks went 21-14-6 at home last season: 21 wins, 14 regulation losses and 6 losses after regulation. That is a 51.2% home win rate over 41 games. The Oilers went 19-16-6 on the road, so they lost 22 of 41, a 53.7% road loss rate. The average of the two unrounded rates is 52.44, which rounds to 52.4 for the Sharks and 47.6 for the Oilers.
These are last season’s games. The 2026-27 season started on 29 September and none of it is in the figures. Rosters change over a summer, and nothing on this page measures what changed.
The Sharks at home, the Oilers on the road
At home, the Sharks scored 3.07 goals a game and allowed 3.46. The Oilers on the road scored 3.39 and allowed 3.15. The visitor scored 0.32 a game more and allowed 0.31 fewer.
That is the tension in this number. By goals, the Oilers on the road were the better side. By results, the Sharks at home won 21 of 41 and the Oilers on the road won 19 of 41, and the method counts results.
The Sharks’ record ran ahead of their goals all season. They were outscored by 0.50 a game and still won 39. In one-goal games they went 22-5-8, across 35 of their 82. Away from San Jose they went 18-21-2, the weaker of their two halves.
Across the full season the Oilers finished 41-30-11 with 93 points and outscored opponents by 0.16 goals a game. They lost their one playoff series, 4-2 to the Anaheim Ducks. The Sharks finished 39-35-8 with 86 points and did not reach the playoffs.
The teams met four times between January and April, and the Oilers won three. They won 4-3 in overtime and 5-3 at home, and 5-2 in San Jose. The Sharks’ one win was 5-4 at home. Four games prove little about a fifth.
Pick: no bet until a line is posted
Our number is 52.4% for the Sharks and 47.6% for the Oilers. The market’s figure is the moneyline with the margin removed. The margin is the few points a book builds into both prices so that they add up to more than 100%.
For the Sharks to be a bet, the market has to rate them at 47.4% or less. With no margin, that is a price of +111. For the Oilers, the market has to rate them at 42.6% or less, which is +135.
Taking the margin out only lowers a side’s chance. So a posted price at or past either of those is a bet whatever the other side reads. A slightly shorter price can clear the threshold too, depending on the pair, and the full page works that out from the posted line.
It rests on 82 games, 41 at home for the Sharks and 41 on the road for the Oilers, all from last season.
What changes it
The price. If the market, with the margin removed, rates the Sharks anywhere between 47.4% and 57.4%, neither side is a bet and the call is a pass. If it rates the Oilers at 52.6% or more, the Sharks are the side that becomes a bet. The full page re-reads the line on the day of the game.
The summer. A season of home and road results says how these teams played in 2025-26. Nothing on this page says who is in either lineup on 10 October. Check the lineups before you bet.
