The Cyclones opened 2025 with five straight wins and then lost four in a row, three of them as favorites. Iowa State finished 8-4 but 5-7 against the spread, with the under landing in eight of its 12.

Iowa State opened at a neutral site with a 24-21 win over Kansas State as a 2.5-point underdog, then beat South Dakota, Iowa, Arkansas State and Arizona. Five wins, three covers: 16-13 over Iowa at -3.5 and 24-16 at Arkansas State at -20.5 fell short of the number.

Five road games, one cover, the one at TCU. Six FBS teams had a worse road cover rate than that one in five; seven had the same. The four misses were Arkansas State, Cincinnati, Colorado and the 20-13 win at Oklahoma State at -14.
