Colts at Chiefs Final Score: Kansas City Wins in Overtime, Short of the Number
Kansas City won 33-30 in overtime. We laid the 6.5 with the Chiefs and the call lost by three and a half.
The Week 2 card finished 8 positions won, 7 lost and one no bet. This was a loss and it is written up the same way the winners are.
The argument was that when Kansas City wins at home it tends to win big. They won at home and it took a fifth quarter. Indianapolis led 20-17 at the half, and the game was tied at 30 after four.
Kansas City gained 523 yards. That is the number that makes this one hurt: 78 plays at 6.7 a play, 37 minutes of possession, no turnovers, and a three-point win. They went 3 for 5 in the red zone. Indianapolis went 2 for 3 on 329 yards and stayed in it all afternoon on far less.
Concede it plainly: laying a touchdown with a team that cannot finish drives is how you lose a bet while your side wins the game. Yards do not pay.
The number
Kansas City closed at -6 and failed to cover by three. Our published price was -6.5. The total closed at 46 and the game produced 63, so the over won by 17.
What we said before kickoff
The prediction below is unchanged, so you can read the card as it was written and mark it yourself.
When Kansas City wins at home, it tends to win big. Lay the 6.5 with the Chiefs.
The record is 0-0. No card here has been graded yet, so there are no units and no rate behind these bets. The number goes at the top of every card from here, whatever the week before did to it.
One unit is one per cent of the bankroll. Every bet below is one unit, and the dull ones get the same stake as the interesting ones.
Where the price has gone
On 16 September this card laid 6.5 with Kansas City. Read on 17 September 2026 at 05:24 UTC, nine of the ten books quoting a spread have Indianapolis at +6.5, and BetRivers has +7.
The move came earlier. On 13 September the same market had Indianapolis at +6 and at +5.5, so the number has gone a point toward Kansas City in four days.
The total has gone the other way. It was 48.5 on 15 September, 47.5 later that day and 46 on 16 September. It is 46.5 at ten books now and 47 at BetRivers.
Kansas City Chiefs -6.5 (-110)
How does a 6-11 team lay nearly a touchdown? By winning big when it wins at all.
Kansas City won six games in 2025, and five of them were by 13 points or more: 22-9 at the Giants, 37-20 over Baltimore, 30-17 over Detroit, 31-0 over Las Vegas and 28-7 over Washington. The sixth was 23-20 over Indianapolis. No Chiefs win last season landed between 4 and 12 points.
The losses were the other shape. Nine of the eleven came in games decided by eight points or fewer, and the Chiefs went 1-9 in those games. At home the four losses were by 3, 10, 3 and 7 points. That is a team that finishes close or finishes clear. At -6.5 we only need the clear version.
At home the defence did the work. Kansas City went 5-4 there, scored 22.4 points a game and allowed 15.6. Week 1 fitted that pattern: a 31-10 home win over Denver as a 1.5-point favourite, with Denver scoring 7 in the first quarter and 3 after it.
Indianapolis is heading the other way. The Colts were 8-2 after Week 10 last season and lost all seven games after that. They lost 41-23 at home to Baltimore in Week 1 as a 3-point underdog, trailing 31-13 at half-time. On the road in 2025 they went 2-6 and allowed 26.6 points a game, and four of the six road losses were by seven or more.
Here is the concession. These two met in Kansas City on 23 November 2025, and the Chiefs won 23-20. A three-point win loses this bet, and 3 is the most common winning margin in the NFL. The Colts also scored 25.5 points a game on the road last season, and a team that scores like that can stay inside a touchdown. Kansas City also lost its last six games of 2025, and that is a real mark against laying points with this team.
Against that, the Chiefs won their only game of 2026 by 21, and the Colts have lost eight in a row across two seasons. Lay the points.
Price: Kansas City -6.5 at nine books, from -110 at BetUS, Bovada and LowVig to -120 at DraftKings, read 17 September 2026, 05:24 UTC. At -110 the bet needs to win 52.4% of the time to break even. At -120 it needs 54.5%.
BetRivers has -7 at -104, which needs 51.0%. A seven-point Kansas City win would push there, and none of the Chiefs’ six wins last season was by seven. Kansas City costs more than Indianapolis at seven of the nine books on 6.5, and BetUS and Bovada have both sides at -110, so the market leans our way at this number. BetUS at -110 is our reference line. Shop around.
Worst price to bet: Kansas City -7 (-115), which needs 53.5%. At -7.5 we pass.
What the moneyline says
The median moneyline across eleven books is Kansas City -303 and Indianapolis +240. With the bookmaker’s margin removed, that makes the Chiefs 71.9% to win this game.
We do not bet it. At -303 the Chiefs need to win 75.2% of the time to break even, above the market’s own rate. And if the wins look like last season’s, the spread carries the same opinion without paying -303 for it.
Indianapolis +6.5 stays a pass, as it was on 16 September. Even money at DraftKings needs 50.0%. Its best arguments are one three-point game in November and the Chiefs’ 1-9 record in close games, and four home wins by 13 or more outweigh both.
The total: no bet
On 16 September this card took the over at 46.5. It is 46.5 at ten books today, with the over from -105 to -110 and the under from -108 to -115, and we are taking the bet off.
The two teams point hard in opposite directions. The Colts’ 2025 games had a median of 52 points, 11 of 17 went over 46.5, and six of their eight road games did. The Chiefs’ games had a median of 37 and 11 of 17 went under. At home it was seven of nine under.
So which one wins in Kansas City? The venue says under, and so does last season’s meeting there, which produced 43 points. Week 1 split it: 64 in the Colts’ game against a closing 48, and 41 in the Chiefs’ game against 42.5. An over that needs the road team’s scoring to beat the home team’s building is not a bet we would make twice. We should not have made it once.
What would change the call
The injury reports. Nothing on this card says who is available for the 8:20 PM ET kickoff on Sunday, and both reports should be read before a bet goes on.
The spread at -7.5 or longer. That is past the floor, and the Chiefs bet comes off.
The total back at 48.5, where it was on 15 September. Eight of Kansas City’s nine home games last season finished under that number, and at 48.5 and -110 or better the under becomes a bet.
Every price here was read on 17 September 2026, and every bet is one unit. The record at the top moves after Sunday night.
