Chargers vs Rams Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
No bet on the Rams -6.5 or on the total of 45. Both lines sit inside two points of our number.
Our number has the Rams by 7.19. The market has them by 6.5. That is a gap of 0.69 points, and my threshold is two. The total tells the same story: 45.51 on our blend against 45 at the books.
The prices and what they say
Los Angeles Chargers at Los Angeles Rams kicks off on Sunday 1 November 2026 at 4:05 pm ET, in Week 8. Across 11 US sportsbooks read at 05:10 UTC on 31 October, the median line is Rams -6.5. Nine books have Chargers +6.5, one has +7 and one has +6, and the Chargers side is priced from -118 to -102.
The moneyline median is Rams -294 and Chargers +235. A book builds a margin into every pair of prices: the extra that makes the two implied chances add to more than 100%. With the margin taken out, those prices give the Rams a 71.4% chance to win and the Chargers 28.6%. I stake the spread or the total, so the moneyline is context only.
How Rams by 7.19 is reached
The method, in one clause: half the gap between the two teams’ per-game point differentials, plus 2.5 points for home field. In 2025 the Rams were +10.12 a game and the Chargers +1.65. That makes the Rams 6.74-point favourites, an edge of 0.24 on the Rams side against -6.5.
This season the Rams are +1.57 a game over seven games and the Chargers -10.17 over six. On those games alone, the Rams are 8.37-point favourites. Blend the two seasons by games played and the Rams come out by 7.19, an edge of 0.69.
The rule is fixed before the pick. A bet needs a gap of at least two points on 2025 and on the blend, both pointing the same way. The Rams become a bet at -4.74 or better, the Chargers at +9.19 or better. The current line of 6.5 sits between the two.
This season so far
Records are outside the method. The Chargers are 0-6, 0-3 at home and 0-3 on the road, outscored 151-90. At home they lost 26-14 to Arizona, 26-14 to Las Vegas and 23-17 to Denver. On the road they lost 24-16 at Buffalo, 30-23 at Seattle and 22-6 at Kansas City. Against the closing spread, the Seattle game pushed at 7, and the opponent covered in the other five.
The Rams are 3-4, with 170 points scored and 159 allowed. They are 1-3 at home. Their three home losses came as favourites of 3.5, 3.5 and 12.5: 27-7 to San Francisco, 37-34 to Buffalo and 18-16 to Arizona. The home win was 28-6 over the Giants. On the road they won 24-20 at Philadelphia and 35-21 at Las Vegas, and lost 30-26 at Denver.
These games reach our number through the two 2026 differentials, weighted by games played. The win-loss records themselves do not enter it.
Rams at home, Chargers on the road
The method uses whole-season rates and a flat 2.5 points for home field, so the venue splits sit outside it. In 2025 the Rams went 7-1 at home, scoring 28.9 a game and allowing 18.1. The Chargers went 5-3 on the road, scoring 19.1 and allowing 20.1. Both splits leave out neutral-site games.
The other halves point the same way. The Rams were 4-4 on the road in 2025, at 31.5 scored and 24.2 allowed. The Chargers were 5-3 at home, at 23.5 and 19.8. This season the Rams are 1-3 at home and the Chargers 0-3 on the road. Four games and three games prove nothing.
The 2025 season around it
The Rams went 12-5 with a point difference of +172, scoring 30.5 a game and allowing 20.4. They were 4-5 in one-score games and 4-2 in the NFC West. In the playoffs they won 34-31 at Carolina and 20-17 at Chicago, then lost the conference championship 31-27 at Seattle. Their median game total was 51.
The Chargers went 11-6 with a point difference of +28, scoring 21.6 and allowing 20.0. They were 6-2 in one-score games and 5-1 in the AFC West. Their season ended with a 16-3 Wild Card loss at New England. Their median game total was 41.
The two teams are in different conferences. No game between them appears in the 2025 or 2026 results, so none is inside our number.
Pick: No bet
The side misses the threshold twice. The edge on the Rams is 0.24 on 2025 and 0.69 on the blend, against a required two. The total misses as well: the edge on the over is 1.25 on 2025 and 0.51 on the blend.
Those are the median prices of 11 books, read through Nucleus at 05:10 UTC on 31 October 2026. The first spread quote on record was Chargers +3.5, at 22:10 UTC on 9 September. It was +4.5 on 11 September and +7.5 on 26 October, and the median is +6.5 now. The total was first quoted at 48.5 on 11 September and is 45 now.
The market has the Rams by 6.5. We have them by 6.74 on last season and 7.19 on the blend. A line that close to both of our numbers is a fair price, and a fair price is not a bet.
What kills the bet
The price first. The Rams are a bet at -4.74 or better and the Chargers at +9.19 or better. The over is a bet at 43.51 or below and the under at 48.25 or above. The total has already been in range once: it was quoted at 43.0 on 26 October and 43.5 on 27 October. The median is 45 now.
No injury list is part of this page, and no absence has re-run the method. Read both teams’ injury reports and check the lineups before you bet. If the line moves to one of the four numbers above, the call changes with it.
The total
The method for the total: each team’s expected points are the average of what it scored a game and what the other side allowed. In 2025 that puts the Chargers at 21.0, from their 21.6 scored and the Rams’ 20.4 allowed. It puts the Rams at 25.25, from their 30.5 scored and the Chargers’ 20.0 allowed. The total is 46.25.
This season alone gives 43.58. The blend gives 45.51. Against 45, the over carries an edge of 1.25 on 2025 and 0.51 on the blend. Seven of the 11 books have 45, two have 45.5 and two have 44.5.
The two teams pull opposite ways at this number. In 2025, 11 Rams games went over 45 and 6 went under. For the Chargers it was 6 over and 10 under. This season, 3 of the Rams’ 7 games and 1 of the Chargers’ 6 have gone over 45. No bet on the total either.
