Vikings vs Lions Best Pick, Prediction and Odds

No bet on the Lions -3.5, and none on the total of 46. My number has Detroit by 3.04, and the market sits 0.46 points beyond it.

The game is Minnesota Vikings at Detroit Lions, Sunday 1 November 2026, 1:00 pm ET. Across 11 books read on 30 October 2026 at 19:14 UTC, the median line is Detroit -3.5 and the median total is 46. My threshold is a 2-point gap. Neither market comes close.

Vikings vs Lions odds and what they say

Ten of the 11 books have Minnesota +3.5, and one has +3. On the +3.5, the Minnesota price runs from -130 to +100. The moneyline median is Detroit -179 and Minnesota +150.

A book builds a margin into every pair of prices, so the two implied chances add to more than 100%. With that margin taken out, the moneyline gives Detroit a 61.6% chance to win and Minnesota 38.4%. That figure is context only. I bet the spread or the total.

How 3.04 is reached

The method for the side, in one clause: half the gap between the two teams’ per-game point differentials, plus 2.5 points for home field. In 2025, Detroit was +4.0 a game and Minnesota +0.65. That makes Detroit a 4.18-point favourite.

Against Detroit -3.5, the 2025 gap is 0.68 points on Detroit. That is a third of the threshold.

This season reverses the order. Detroit is +3.17 a game over six games and Minnesota is +8.5 over six. On 2026 alone, Minnesota is a 0.17-point favourite in Detroit. Weight the two seasons by games played and Detroit is a 3.04-point favourite, which puts the blended gap at 0.46 on Minnesota’s side.

The rule needs 2 points on 2025 and on the blend, pointing the same way. This game gives 0.68 on Detroit and 0.46 on Minnesota. The two numbers point opposite ways, and neither one clears 2.

This season so far

Minnesota is 6-0 and has outscored opponents 125-74. Detroit is 4-2, at 184-165. Those points are in the 2026 number and in the blend. The records themselves are outside the method.

Against the closing spread, Minnesota covered in Weeks 1, 2, 3 and 5. Miami covered against the Vikings in Week 4 (a 15-10 Minnesota win as 10.5-point favourites), and Indianapolis did in Week 7 (16-10 as 6.5-point favourites). Detroit covered in Weeks 3 and 5. The Saints, Bills, Panthers and Packers covered against the Lions. Six games per team is a description and not a rate.

Detroit at home, Minnesota on the road

In 2025, Detroit went 5-3 at home, scoring 32.5 a game and allowing 23.0. Minnesota went 4-3 on the road, scoring 17.1 and allowing 24.7. These splits leave out neutral-site games. The method does not use them: it takes full-season rates and adds a flat 2.5 for home field.

Both 2026 splits are 3-0. Detroit beat New Orleans 31-30, the Jets 31-24 and Green Bay 20-17 at home. Minnesota won 9-3 at Chicago, 23-16 at Tampa Bay and 23-13 at New Orleans. Three games is not a sample. I give the scores and draw no rate from them.

The season around it

Both teams finished 2025 at 9-8. Detroit’s point differential was +68 and Minnesota’s +11. That gap is the whole reason the 2025 number favours Detroit by 4.18. In one-score games Detroit went 3-5 and Minnesota 5-4. Inside the NFC North, Detroit was 2-4 and Minnesota 4-2.

Minnesota won both 2025 meetings. The first was 27-24 at Detroit on 2 November 2025. The second was 23-10 at Minnesota on 25 December 2025. Both games are inside the 2025 differentials, and so inside my number. Two games prove nothing about this one.

Pick: No bet

The side gap is 0.68 on 2025 and 0.46 the other way on the blend, against a threshold of 2. The total gap is 0.2 on 2025 and 0.06 on the blend, both on the over. All four numbers are prices read from the median of 11 books on 30 October 2026 at 19:14 UTC. The spread is Detroit -3.5, with Minnesota +3.5 at -130 to +100. The total is 46.

The spread opened at Minnesota +5.5 on 13 September 2026 at 16:10 UTC. It was +4.5 an hour later, +2.5 on 25 October, and +3 and +3.5 on 30 October. My blended number of Detroit by 3.04 sits between the opening line and the current one. At no point in that history did the line reach a bettable price.

What kills the bet

The price comes first. Detroit becomes a bet at -1.04 or better. Minnesota becomes a bet at +6.18 or better. The current line is far from both.

On the total, the over becomes a bet at 44.06 or below. The under becomes a bet at 48.2 or above. If either side or the total moves to its threshold, the call changes. Check the injury reports and the lineups before you bet, and read the current price yourself.

The total

The method for the total: each team’s expected points are the average of what it scored a game and what the other team allowed. In 2025, Minnesota scored 20.2 and allowed 19.6. Detroit scored 28.3 and allowed 24.3. That puts Minnesota at 22.25 points and Detroit at 23.95, a total of 46.2.

On 2026 alone, the total is 45.67, and the blend is 46.06. Against 46, the over gap is 0.2 on 2025 and 0.06 on the blend. My total is the market’s total. No bet.

The two teams’ games split hard against this line. In 2025, 11 Detroit games went over 46 and 6 went under. Ten Minnesota games went under and 6 went over. Detroit’s median 2025 total was 53 and Minnesota’s was 38. This season, 5 of Detroit’s 6 games went over 46, and 1 of Minnesota’s did. Those splits pull in opposite directions, and the method averages them to the number the market already has.
