Hurricanes at Blackhawks Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
Our number has Carolina at 62.2%. The Hurricanes are a bet at -133 or better, the Blackhawks at +205 or longer.
Our number gives the Chicago Blackhawks a 37.8% chance to beat the Carolina Hurricanes at home, and the Hurricanes 62.2%. No line had been posted as of 28 September 2026. The threshold for a bet is 5 points between our number and the market’s, so the Hurricanes become a bet when the market puts them at 57.2% or lower, and the Blackhawks when it puts them at 32.8% or lower.
How the number is built
The method is one clause: our home win chance is the average of the home team’s 2025-26 home win rate and the visitor’s 2025-26 road loss rate, with a win in overtime or a shootout counted as a win.
The Blackhawks went 14-19-8 at home last season: 14 wins, 19 regulation losses and 8 losses after regulation. That is a 34.1% home win rate over 41 games. The Hurricanes went 24-12-5 on the road, so they lost 17 of 41, a 41.5% road loss rate. The average of 34.1 and 41.5 is 37.8 for the Blackhawks, and 62.2 for the Hurricanes.
The market’s figure, once a line exists, is the moneyline with the margin removed. The margin is the few points a book builds into both prices so that they add up to more than 100%.
It is a new season, and rosters change over a summer. The evidence in hand is last season: 41 home games for the Blackhawks and 41 road games for the Hurricanes. Any game either team plays between 29 September and 10 October is not in these figures.
The Blackhawks at home, the Hurricanes on the road
At home, the Blackhawks scored 2.61 goals a game and allowed 3.29. The Hurricanes on the road scored 3.29 and allowed 2.78. The same figure, 3.29, is what Chicago allowed at home and what Carolina scored away.
Chicago was no better in its own building. The Blackhawks went 15-20-6 on the road, one more win than at home. Carolina was stronger at home, 29-10-2, but the method uses only the road half for the visitor, and 24 road wins is the figure here.
The Hurricanes finished 53-22-7 with 113 points and outscored opponents by 56 goals over 82 games. In the playoffs they won all four of their series: 4-0 against the Ottawa Senators, 4-0 against the Philadelphia Flyers, 4-1 against the Montreal Canadiens and 4-2 against the Vegas Golden Knights.
The Blackhawks finished 29-39-14 with 72 points. They were outscored by 62 goals over 82 games and played no playoff games.
The teams met twice in 2025-26 and split them. Chicago won 4-3 in a shootout in Carolina on 22 January, and Carolina won 7-2 in Chicago on 9 April. Two games prove nothing about a third.
Pick: Hurricanes at -133 or better, Blackhawks at +205 or longer
No line yet, so no bet yet. Our 62.2% for Carolina sets the two prices at which a side clears the 5-point threshold.
A moneyline converts to a chance. -133 means risking 133 to win 100, so the chance it implies is 133 divided by 233, or 57.1%. That is 5.1 points under our 62.2. Anything paying more than -133, such as -125 or -110, implies less and is also a bet.
On the other side, +205 means risking 100 to win 205: 100 divided by 305 is 32.8%, 5.0 points under our 37.8 for the Blackhawks, which meets the threshold.
Removing the book’s margin only lowers a price’s chance, so at those prices either team is a bet whatever the other side is priced at. A slightly shorter price can still clear the threshold once the margin is out, and that is checked against the line on the day.
What changes it
The price. Carolina finished 41 points ahead of Chicago, 113 to 72, and our number still backs the Hurricanes only at -133 or better. Between -133 on Carolina and +205 on Chicago, the call depends on the book’s margin, and the line is read on the day to settle it.
The summer is the other thing. The 82 games behind our number all come from 2025-26, and they say nothing about who is in either lineup on 10 October. Check the lineups before you bet.
