Our number has this game at 50-50. Bet either side, the Mammoth or the Devils, at +123 or better.

Our number is 50.0% for the New Jersey Devils and 50.0% for the Utah Mammoth. No line had been posted for this game as of 28 September 2026. A side becomes a bet when the market, with its margin removed, sits at least 5 points below our number for it.

How the number is built

The method is one clause: our home win chance is the average of the home team’s 2025-26 home win rate and the visitor’s 2025-26 road loss rate, with a win in overtime or a shootout counted as a win.

The Devils went 21-17-3 at home last season: 21 wins, 17 regulation losses and 3 losses after regulation. That is a 51.2% home win rate over 41 games. The Mammoth went 21-17-3 on the road as well, so they lost 20 of 41, a 48.8% road loss rate. The average of 51.2 and 48.8 is exactly 50.

The two records are identical. New Jersey at home and Utah on the road each won 21, lost 17 in regulation and lost 3 after it.

It is a new season. Rosters change over a summer, and nothing on this page measures what changed. The 2026-27 season opened on 29 September, and no game from it is in these figures.

The Devils at home, the Mammoth on the road

The goals do not match the way the records do. At home, the Devils scored 2.95 goals a game and allowed 3.02. The Mammoth on the road scored 3.20 and allowed 2.83. That is 0.25 goals a game more scored by the visitor, and 0.19 fewer allowed.

The method counts wins, not goals, so that difference does not move our number. It leans toward Utah, and it is noted here as evidence the method leaves out.

Both teams played almost the same season in both buildings. The Devils went 21-20-0 on the road. The Mammoth went 22-16-3 at home.

Across the full season the Mammoth finished 43-33-6 with 92 points and outscored opponents by 28 goals, scoring 3.27 a game and allowing 2.93. They lost their one playoff series, 4-2 to the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Devils finished 42-37-3 with 87 points and were outscored by 24 goals, scoring 2.80 a game and allowing 3.10. Only 3 of their 40 losses came after regulation, and 16 of their 82 games went past 60 minutes. They did not reach the playoffs.

The teams met twice in 2025-26 and New Jersey won both in regulation: 2-1 in Utah on 19 December and 4-1 at home on 3 January. Two games prove nothing about a third.

The price

There is no line yet, so the page states the prices at which this becomes a bet.

With our number at 50.0% for each side, either one needs the market to rate it at 45.0% or less with the margin removed. A price of +123 or better guarantees that, whatever the other side is priced at.

So the bet is on the underdog, whichever side the books make it, and only at +123 or longer.

Pick: Mammoth or Devils at +123 or better

Our number is 50.0% for each side. With no line posted, the call is the underdog at +123 or better. Short of that, pass.

It rests on 82 games from last season: 41 at home for the Devils and 41 on the road for the Mammoth.

What changes it

The price. The full page re-reads the line on the day of the game. A price slightly short of +123 may still qualify once the book’s margin is taken out, and that check is made against the posted pair.

The summer is the other thing. A season of home and road results says how these teams played in 2025-26. Nothing on this page says who is in either lineup on 6 October. Check the lineups before you bet.
