SMU Mustangs

Favored, short of the number

SMU went 8-4 and 5-7 against the spread. Laying points, the Mustangs won six of nine and covered three. The first four lined games all missed, the big ones included: 42-13 over East Texas A&M at -50.5, 28-10 at Missouri State at -28.5. The three losses as favorites were 48-45 to Baylor at -2.5, 13-12 at Wake Forest at -5.5 and 38-35 at California at -13.5, a -600 moneyline.

As underdogs

Three games, two wins: 35-24 at Clemson at +165 and 26-20 over Miami at +210. The third was a 35-24 loss at TCU at +6.5. One unit on SMU in those three returned 2.75; only 19 FBS teams made more on the moneyline as underdogs.

The moneyline

Eleven games carried a price. One unit on SMU every time finished 0.75 up. The eight priced favorite games lost 2.0 of it, and the September games lost 1.98.

The total

Eight of 12 went under. That under rate ranked tenth in FBS, shared with nine other teams. SMU allowed 20.67 points a game.

The season ended with a 24-19 Holiday Bowl win over Arizona.
