Celtics vs Rockets Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
Bet the Celtics to win in Houston. Our number gives Boston 45.1%; the price gives 38.4%.
The Boston Celtics are +150 and the Houston Rockets -180 at DraftKings. With the margin out, that is 38.4% for Boston and 61.6% for Houston. Last season’s home and road records put Boston 6.7 points higher than the market. We bet at 5.
How 45.1% is reached
Our home win chance is the average of two 2025-26 regular-season rates: the home team’s win rate in its own arena and the visitor’s loss rate on the road. Neutral-site games are in neither half. Neither team played one.
The Rockets went 30-11 at Toyota Center, a 73.2% home win rate over 41 games. The Celtics went 26-15 on the road and lost 15 of 41, a 36.6% road loss rate. The midpoint is 54.9% for Houston and 45.1% for Boston.
The margin is the extra a book builds into both prices so the pair adds to more than 100%. At -180 and +150 the pair comes to 104.3%. With the margin taken out, the Rockets are 61.6% and the Celtics 38.4%. The gap is 6.7 points toward Boston.
None of this season is in our number. Houston is 6-1, 3-0 at home, and beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 119-98 on Saturday 31 October. Boston is 5-1, 1-1 on the road, and won 108-97 at the Orlando Magic on Sunday 1 November, the night before this game. The method does not see a 2026-27 record, a back-to-back or a summer of roster changes. That is the main risk in this bet.
Houston at home, Boston on the road
At home the Rockets scored 114.8 points a game and allowed 107.3, a margin of 7.5. On the road the Celtics scored 114.9 and allowed 107.3, a margin of 7.6. On points, Boston away from home was as strong as Houston in its own arena.
The method leaves out two halves. Houston on the road went 22-19, scoring 115.7 and allowing 112.7, a margin of 3.0. Boston at home went 30-11, scoring 114.8 and allowing 107.0, a margin of 7.8.
The season around it
The Celtics finished 56-26, the 2 seed in the East, scoring 114.9 and allowing 107.2, a point difference of 7.7 a game. The Rockets finished 52-30, the 5 seed in the West, scoring 115.2 and allowing 110.0, a difference of 5.2. Boston won 38 games by 10 or more and lost 10 that way. Houston won 27 by 10 or more and lost 11.
In games decided by 5 points or fewer, Houston went 14-12 and Boston 10-10. The Rockets played 8 overtime games, the Celtics 1. Neither close-game record is a sample that proves anything. In the playoffs Houston lost a series to the Los Angeles Lakers 4-2, and Boston lost to the Philadelphia 76ers 4-3.
The teams split two games last season. In Houston on 4 February 2026, the Celtics won 114-93; that game is in our number, one of the Rockets’ 41 home games and one of the Celtics’ 41 road games. In Boston on 1 November 2025, the Rockets won 128-101; that game is in neither half.
Pick: Celtics +150
Bet the Celtics on the moneyline at +150. The gap is 6.7 points toward Boston, against a threshold of 5.
The line read Celtics +150 and Rockets -180 on 2 November 2026 at 00:31 UTC, DraftKings via ESPN. It opened at Celtics +154 and Rockets -185. Since opening, the market gives Boston 0.6 points more, 38.4% against 37.8%. That is a move toward the Celtics, and it has not closed the gap.
What kills the bet
A shorter Boston price. At +150 or longer the Celtics are a bet whatever Houston is priced at. With the Rockets at -180, Boston stays a bet down to +132. Shorter than that, the bet is gone.
For the Rockets to become the bet, their price would have to drift to +101 or longer whatever Boston is priced at, or to +151 or longer against the Celtics at +150. They are -180.
ESPN’s injury list for the game, read 2 November 2026 at 00:31 UTC, has Steven Adams (calf) out and Clint Capela (ankle) and Reed Sheppard (back) day-to-day for Houston. For Boston it has Mitchell Robinson (rest) and Devin Carter (illness) out. The NBA has no key-player rule in our method, so the list does not change the number. Check the lineups before you bet.
Our number still gives Houston a 54.9% chance of winning. The case is that +150 pays more than a 45.1% chance needs, on last season’s evidence.
The total and the spread
The total is 218.5, over -115 and under -105. The Rockets’ home games went over 218.5 in 19 of 41, a 46.3% rate, and the Celtics’ road games in 20 of 41, a 48.8% rate. Those games averaged 222.1 and 222.2 points. Across all 82 games, Houston went over this line 44 times and Boston 43.
The two venue rates average 47.6% for the over. With the margin out the over is priced at 51.1% and the under at 48.9%, so our count leans under by 3.5 points. That is below the threshold of 5. Pass on the total.
The spread is Rockets -5.5 at -110 and Celtics +5.5 at -110, unchanged from the open. Houston covered -5.5 in 22 of 41 home games. Boston covered +5.5 in 32 of 41 road games. Averaged, Rockets -5.5 lands 37.8% of the time against 50.0% priced, a gap of 12.2 points toward Celtics +5.5. It leans the same way as the pick and is a lean only, because our method stakes the moneyline. One bet on this game: the Celtics at +150.
