Pistons vs Hornets Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
No bet. Our number gives Charlotte at home 41.5%, the price gives 39.1%, and 2.4 points is short of the 5 we bet at.
The Detroit Pistons are -175 and the Charlotte Hornets +145 at DraftKings for Detroit Pistons at Charlotte Hornets. With the margin out, that is 60.9% for Detroit and 39.1% for Charlotte. Our number sits 2.4 points closer to Charlotte than the market does. The price is close enough to right that there is nothing to take.
How 41.5% is reached
Our home win chance is the average of two 2025-26 regular-season rates: the home team’s win rate in its own arena and the visitor’s loss rate on the road. A side is a bet when our number and the market’s differ by at least 5 points. Games at a neutral site are in neither half. Detroit played one, Charlotte none.
The Hornets went 21-20 at Spectrum Center, a 51.2% home win rate. The Pistons went 28-13 on the road and lost 13 of 41, a 31.7% road loss rate. The midpoint is 41.5% for Charlotte and 58.5% for Detroit.
The margin is the extra a book builds into both prices so the pair comes to more than 100%. At -175 and +145 they come to 104.5%. Taken out, the Pistons are 60.9% and the Hornets 39.1%.
This season is outside the method. Detroit is 5-1, 3-1 on the road, and won its last game 110-94 at the Brooklyn Nets on Friday 30 October. Charlotte is 3-4, 2-2 at home, and lost 109-104 to the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday 31 October. Our number reads 2025-26 only, so none of those 13 games is in it.
Charlotte at home, Detroit on the road
At home the Hornets scored 115.0 points a game and allowed 111.1, a margin of 3.9. On the road the Pistons scored 116.8 and allowed 111.0, a margin of 5.8.
The halves the method leaves out run the other way for Charlotte. The Hornets were better away from home: 23-18, scoring 117.0 and allowing 111.2, a margin of 5.8. The Pistons at home went 31-9, scoring 118.6 and allowing 108.2, a margin of 10.4. Our number uses Charlotte’s weaker half. That is one reason it does not lean further toward the Hornets.
The 2025-26 season around it
The Pistons finished 60-22, the first seed in the Eastern Conference, scoring 117.8 and allowing 109.6, a difference of 8.2 a game. They won 34 games by 10 or more and lost 8 by that much. In the playoffs they beat the Orlando Magic 4-3 and lost 4-3 to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Hornets finished 44-38, the ninth seed, and missed the playoffs. They scored 116.0 and allowed 111.2, a difference of 4.8 a game. In games decided by 5 points or fewer they went 5-11; Detroit went 14-10. Charlotte played 3 overtime games and Detroit 5. The Hornets won 32 games by 10 or more and lost 19 by 10 or more.
The Pistons won the three games between the teams. In Charlotte, Detroit won 110-104 on Monday 9 February 2026 and 118-100 on Friday 10 April 2026. Those two games are in our number: two of the Hornets’ 41 home games and two of the Pistons’ 41 road games. In Detroit, the Pistons won 112-86 on Saturday 20 December 2025, a game that is in neither half.
Pick: No bet
No bet on the moneyline. The gap is 2.4 points toward the Hornets, against a threshold of 5.
The line read Pistons -175 and Hornets +145 on 1 November 2026 at 23:44 UTC, DraftKings via ESPN. It opened at Pistons -180 and Hornets +150. Since the open, the market gives the Hornets 0.7 points more than it did.
What kills the bet
A longer Charlotte price. At +174 or longer the Hornets are a bet whatever Detroit is priced at. With the Pistons at -175, they become a bet at +173 or longer. The current +145 is well short of either.
For the Pistons to become the bet, their price would have to drift to -115 or longer, whatever Charlotte is priced at. They are -175.
ESPN’s game page, read 1 November 2026 at 23:44 UTC, lists Grant Williams (hamstring) and Kon Knueppel (hamstring) out for Charlotte, and Isaiah Joe (hip) and Jalen Duren (hamstring) out for Detroit. The list does not change our number, which is built on last season’s results. Check the lineups before you bet.
The total and the spread
The total is 209.5, over -110 and under -110. The Hornets’ home games went over 209.5 in 34 of 41, an 82.9% rate. The Pistons’ road games went over in 37 of 41, 90.2%. Charlotte’s home games averaged 226.1 points and Detroit’s road games 227.8. Across all 82 games, Charlotte’s went over 209.5 in 66 and Detroit’s in 70.
The average of the two venue rates is 86.6% for the over. The market prices the over at 50.0% once the margin is out. That leaves a 36.6-point lean to the over. A gap that size reads, in our view, as the market pricing something last season’s results do not show. Our method stakes the moneyline only, so this is a lean, not a bet.
The spread is Hornets +4.5 at -115 and Pistons -4.5 at -105, unchanged from the open. Against a 4.5-point line, Charlotte’s home games came out on the Hornets’ side in 26 of 41. Detroit’s road games came out on the Pistons’ side in 23 of 41. Averaged, Hornets +4.5 lands 53.7% of the time against 51.1% priced, a 2.6-point lean toward Charlotte. That is below the threshold and outside the market we stake. No bet on this game.
