Chargers at Bills Final Score: Bills Win 24-16
Final: Buffalo Bills 24, Los Angeles Chargers 16, Sunday 27 September at Highmark Stadium.
Of our two calls, one won, one lost. Before the game this page said: “Pick: Chargers +7.5. The under 50 is the better number.” Chargers +7.5 lost: Los Angeles lost by 8. The under 50 won: the teams scored 40.
What decided it
Buffalo won the fourth quarter by 11. Buffalo turned the ball over 5 times to Los Angeles’s 1, and gained 350 yards to 348.
| Team | Q1 | Q2 | Q3 | Q4 | Final |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Los Angeles Chargers | 10 | 0 | 3 | 3 | 16 |
| Buffalo Bills | 0 | 10 | 0 | 14 | 24 |
The last DraftKings line ESPN holds for the game is BUF -7, with a total of 50.5. Buffalo covered as the favourite. The 40 points went under the total.
What comes next
Los Angeles plays next at the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday 4 October: our prediction. Buffalo plays next against the New England Patriots on Sunday 4 October: our prediction.
The prediction, as published before the game
Everything below is the page as it stood before the game, kept unchanged as the record. It was titled “Chargers at Bills prediction: Take Chargers +7.5”.
Buffalo -7.5 is two and a half points longer than last season’s rates support. The pick is Los Angeles +7.5.
The median has moved from 7 on Monday to 7.5, across 11 US sportsbooks read 24 September 2026, which adds half a point to the edge and turns a seven-point Buffalo win from a push into a win for this bet.
Buffalo scored 28.3 points a game in 2025 and allowed 21.5, a differential of +116 over 17 games. Los Angeles scored 21.6 and allowed 20.0, a differential of +28. On those rates, with two and a half points for home field, this game prices at Buffalo by about five. The market has seven and a half.
The number the argument rests on
The gap in scoring is 6.7 points a game in Buffalo’s favour. The gap in points allowed is 1.5 in Los Angeles’s favour. Per game, Buffalo’s differential is 6.8 and Los Angeles’s is 1.6, a difference of 5.2. Half of that is the gap on a neutral field, 2.6, and two and a half for home field makes it Buffalo by about five, against a price of seven and a half. That is a two-and-a-half-point edge, half a point past my threshold.
On Monday, at seven, the edge was exactly two, the threshold itself. The move has made a thin bet slightly less thin. It is still not a strong one.
Pick: Chargers +7.5
The line has moved toward Buffalo across the downloads we hold: it was dealt as short as 3 on 16 September, sat at 7 at all ten books on Monday, and now six of 11 books hang 7.5 while five still hang 7. I cannot tell you why it moved, and I am not going to guess.
Seven is one of the margins NFL games land on most often. On Monday, taking exactly seven meant a Buffalo win by a touchdown was a push. At +7.5 that same result is a win. The +7.5 books charge for it, from -114 to -120 on Los Angeles, against -105 to -110 at the books still on +7, so shop both before you choose.
What this season says, and what it cannot
Buffalo is 2-0 and Los Angeles is 0-2.
Four games. A four-game sample cannot move a 17-game rate by two points, and that is the whole reason I am not pricing off the start. If you believe the start is real and last season is stale, the correct action is to pass, not to take Buffalo, because by that logic seven and a half is still not obviously enough.
Last season, game by game
Los Angeles went 11-6 with a +28 differential, which is the profile of a team that wins close games rather than one that wins big. That shape matters when you are taking points: a team that keeps games tight is a better bet at +7.5 than a team with a wilder distribution and the same record.
The total
Fifty, down from 50.5 on Monday, and still the second-highest number on the board this week behind Ravens at Cowboys.
Buffalo’s games went over 50 in 5 of 17 last season, at 28.3 points scored and 21.5 allowed. Los Angeles’s games, at 21.6 and 20.0, went over 50 in 3 of 17. My estimate is in the mid forties, which is still about a four-point edge on the under at 50, half a point less than on Monday. That is a larger edge than the spread offers, and I would rather say so than bury it: if you take one position from this page, the under is the stronger of the two.

The moneyline
The median moneylines are Buffalo -345 and Los Angeles +275. With the margin taken out, that is about a 74 percent chance for Buffalo, the same as Monday to the nearest point. Consistent with the spread, no separate edge.
What would change the call
A move back to +7 takes the edge back to exactly my threshold, and it is still a bet there, as it was on Monday. A move to +6.5 kills it, because the protection on the key number is doing real work. Buffalo losing its starting quarterback would move the line past the point where this matters, and Nucleus carries no injury data, so read the Friday report before betting.
Pick: Chargers +7.5. The under 50 is the better number.
