We make Colorado a 57.3% winner in Calgary. The Avalanche are a bet at -109 or better, the Flames at +165 or better.

No line had been posted for this game when we read the market on 28 September 2026. So this page gives our number and the prices at which it turns into a bet. Our number is 42.7% for the Calgary Flames and 57.3% for the Colorado Avalanche. A side is a bet when the market’s figure sits at least 5 points below ours.

How the number is built

The method is one clause: our home win chance is the average of the home team’s 2025-26 home win rate and the visitor’s 2025-26 road loss rate, with a win in overtime or a shootout counted as a win.

The Flames went 23-13-5 at home last season. That is 23 wins, 13 regulation losses and 5 losses after regulation, a 56.1% home win rate over 41 games. The Avalanche went 29-7-5 on the road, so they lost 12 of 41, a 29.3% road loss rate. The average of 56.1 and 29.3 is 42.7 for the Flames, which leaves 57.3 for the Avalanche.

It is a new season. Rosters change over a summer, and nothing on this page measures what changed. The evidence in hand is last season: 41 home games for Calgary and 41 road games for Colorado.

The Flames at home, the Avalanche on the road

Calgary was a sound home team. It scored 2.93 goals a game at home and allowed 2.61, and its 23 home wins were more than twice its 11 road wins. On the road it went 11-26-4, a 26.8% win rate. The method uses only the home half, which is why Calgary gets 42.7% and not less.

Colorado’s road record is the strongest split on this page. It won 29 of 41 away from home, a 70.7% rate, scoring 3.54 a game and allowing 2.32. It won more on the road than at home, where it went 26-9-6.

Across the full season the Avalanche finished 55-16-11 with 121 points and outscored opponents by 1.20 goals a game (3.68 scored, 2.48 allowed). In the playoffs they beat the Los Angeles Kings 4-0 and the Minnesota Wild 4-1, then lost 4-0 to the Vegas Golden Knights. The Flames finished 34-39-9 with 77 points, were outscored by 0.57 a game, and played no playoff games.

The teams met three times in 2025-26, all between 30 March and 14 April, and Colorado won all three: 9-2 at home on 30 March, 3-1 at home on 9 April and 3-1 in Calgary on 14 April. Three games prove nothing about a fourth, though the one in Calgary is the closest match to this one.

Pick: Avalanche at -109 or better, Flames at +165 or better

With no line posted, the pick is a pair of prices. Our 57.3% for the Avalanche, less the 5-point threshold, is 52.3%. A price of -109 or better (-105, even money and so on) puts them at or below that, and the Avalanche are a bet. Our 42.7% for the Flames, less 5, is 37.7%. At +165 or better, the Flames are a bet. Anything between -109 on Colorado and +165 on Calgary is a pass.

Those are fair prices, with the margin taken out. A posted line carries a margin on both sides, so the posted pair has to be converted before it is compared. At -110 the Avalanche gap is 4.9 points, and at +164 the Flames gap is 4.8. Both are passes.

It rests on 82 games, 41 at home for the Flames and 41 on the road for the Avalanche, all from last season.

What changes it

The line. When a price is posted, the margin comes out of it, and the call is whatever side clears 5 points at that price, or a pass. The full page re-reads the line on the day.

The summer is the other thing. A season of home and road results says how these two teams played in 2025-26, and nothing on this page says who is in either lineup on 8 October. Check the lineups before you bet.
