Best College Football Week 3 Games
As you can see above, we’ve identified the best College Football Week 3 games. Of those matchups, there are a few that really stand out as must-watch matchups:
Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Wisconsin Badgers
For only the third time in the history of these proud programs, the SEC’s Alabama Crimson Tide will take on the Big Ten’s Wisconsin Badgers. Additionally, this is just the second time that Alabama has ever traveled to Madison, WI, to play against the Badgers. The first time came in 1928, and Wisconsin won that matchup by the score of 15-0.
The last time these two teams played against each other was in 2015. The game was played at a neutral site and the Crimson Tide won 35-17. If Wisconsin desires to be a legitimate threat in the Big Ten Conference, then they need to pick up a huge win at home.
For Alabama, they come into the season as a legitimate College Football Championship contender. A big road win over a ranked Wisconsin team will definitely help their resume at the end of the season.
LSU Tigers vs. South Carolina Gamecocks
This SEC battle features two teams looking to make a run at the College Football Playoffs by the end of the season. However, it’s going to be more difficult for the Gamecocks to reach the Playoffs if they continue this losing streak to the Tigers. Currently, LSU has won seven in a row against South Carolina and have an all-time record of 19-1-2 over the Gamecocks. It’s been 30 years since South Carolina last beat LSU. Can South Carolina break LSU’s streak of dominance?
Memphis Tigers vs. Florida State Seminoles
The projected top team of the AAC Conference, Memphis Tigers, will travel to Tallahassee, FL, to battle the projected #1 team of the ACC Conference, Florida State Seminoles, in what should be an exciting matchup.
These two programs have played against each other 18 times and the Seminoles hold the advantage with a 10-7-1 record. Week 3’s game will be the first time that these teams have played against each other since 1990. The Tigers have gone 3-7 in their last 10 matchups against Florida State.
Memphis has not beaten FSU since 1976. They have a nine-game winless streak against the Seminoles. Will the Tigers earn their stripes by upsetting the Seminoles in Week 3?
Indiana Hoosiers vs. UCLA Bruins
Perhaps, the most historic matchup of Week 3 is the UCLA Bruins hosting the Indiana Hoosiers. For the Bruins, they will be making their Big Ten debut after leaving the Pac 12, which is now defunct.
These two schools have never played against each other in the history of their football programs. It’s not often we get to see first-time encounters, so this College Football Week 3 game will be significant on and off the field.
Historic Rivalry Games
In addition to those exciting matchups, we would be foolish not to talk about the rivalry games scheduled for Week 3:
The Oregon Ducks will battle the Oregon State Beavers for the 128th time in a rivalry that has long been dubbed “The Civil War”. Currently, the Ducks hold a 68-49-10 advantage in this head-to-head series.
The Washington State Cougars will host the Washington Huskies in the 116th edition of “The Apple Cup”. The Huskies hold a 76-33-6 record in this series and have won the last two meetings.
The Utah Utes, of the Big 12 Conference, and the Utah State Aggies, of the Mountain West, will rekindle their rivalry as they play against each other for the first time since 2015. This rivalry used to be called “The Battle of the Brothers,” as these two teams first played against each other in 1892. The Utes hold the all-time advantage with a 79-4-30 record.
