The NHL has 32 teams in two conferences of 16, the Eastern Conference (Atlantic and Metropolitan divisions) and the Western Conference (Central and Pacific divisions), with eight teams in each division. The 2026-27 regular season opens on 29 September 2026 and runs to 10 April 2027, and the reigning Stanley Cup champions are the Carolina Hurricanes, who beat the Vegas Golden Knights 4-2 in the 2026 Final.

Eastern Conference
The Eastern Conference has 16 teams: eight in the Atlantic Division and eight in the Metropolitan Division.
- Atlantic: Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Red Wings, Florida Panthers, Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators, Tampa Bay Lightning, Toronto Maple Leafs
