Cardinals Look to Complete Sweep Against Brewers After Dramatic Wins

After enduring a brutal 1-6 road trip, the St. Louis Cardinals have bounced back impressively at home. With two close victories already secured against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Cardinals will aim for a series sweep Sunday afternoon at Busch Stadium, where they boast a strong 10-4 record.

Nolan Arenado’s Heroics Power Cardinals

The Cardinals edged out the Brewers 3-2 on Friday, then followed it up with a thrilling 6-5 win on Saturday, courtesy of a walk-off solo home run by Nolan Arenado.

“Guys are playing good; we’re playing hard, man,” Arenado told Fan Duel Sports Network. “Nothing is rattling us. Losing stinks, but we’re battling. We’re battling to the end.”

Manager Oliver Marmol praised the team’s resilience and ability to move past the rough road trip.

“Obviously a tough road trip, but those guys have done a phenomenal job of (keeping) each game its own game,” Marmol said. “Even within a game, each inning is its own inning.”

Marmol also highlighted the positive signs from Saturday’s performance, from effective small-ball play to clutch doubles.

Erick Fedde and Jose Quintana Set for Pitching Duel

On the mound, right-hander Erick Fedde (1-2, 3.33 ERA) will start for St. Louis. Fedde has produced four quality starts in five appearances this season, though he has struggled with control recently, walking 14 batters in 21 innings during May.

Facing him will be Brewers left-hander Jose Quintana (3-0, 0.96 ERA), who has been dominant early in his Milwaukee career. Quintana has allowed just two runs across 18 2/3 innings in three starts and is coming off an 11-3 win against the Giants.

Quintana’s previous stint with the Cardinals in 2022 adds extra intrigue to this matchup. Overall, he holds a 6-4 record and a 3.95 ERA against St. Louis.

Brewers Battling Through Injuries

Milwaukee suffered a setback when outfielder Garrett Mitchell sustained an oblique strain during Friday’s game, landing him on the 10-day injured list.

“This doesn’t look to be that serious,” Brewers manager Pat Murphy said. “Hopefully, we’ll have him back soon.”

The Brewers called up outfielder Daz Cameron from Triple-A Nashville to fill the roster spot. Cameron, the son of former Brewers standout Mike Cameron, expressed excitement about returning to the team he grew up around.

“I was out there fielding and shagging (fly balls); I can remember like it was yesterday,” Cameron recalled. “During batting practice, I would go out there and run some balls down in the gap, catch them, make sure it was in my glove when I caught it.”

Milwaukee will rotate Sal Frelick and Jackson Chourio in center field during Mitchell’s absence, although Frelick left Saturday’s game early after an overthrow mishap.
