Week 17 opens on New Year’s Eve and closes in January. Four of the sixteen games still have no confirmed kickoff, because the league is waiting to see which of them decide something before it decides when they are played.
Six division games, and every one of them is a rematch. There are no first meetings left on the board.

The Take: The flex takes over
By week 17 the league has stopped pretending the schedule was written in May. The flexed games are a published list of which fixtures the NFL believes will still matter, and that is a piece of information handed out for free.
Our view: the games moved into the late windows are the ones to look at first, not last. Somebody with the standings in front of them has already decided they are the most consequential on the card.

Second time these two have met this season, in the division. Adjustments, not surprises. Outdoors in Cincinnati, in the part of the season where the forecast is a genuine input rather than colour. Our view: this is the sort of game people are certain about for no good reason.
