Dayton Flyers

The under, game after game

Start every Dayton game with the total. The Flyers went under in 23 of 34, 67.6%; 16 teams across Division I went under more often, and one other equalled that 67.6%. The season closed on eight unders in a row, from 21 February through the conference final.

They scored 74.35 points a game and allowed 69.88. Sixty-nine Division I teams allowed fewer points, and one allowed the same.

Laying points

As favorites the Flyers won 18 of 23 and covered only 9. Three of the five defeats came at -9.5 on the spread: Liberty 64-61 at -575, La Salle 67-64 at -575 and Rhode Island 81-76 at -440. As underdogs they covered 6 of 11 and won five. At home the record was 14-3, yet the spread was beaten in only 8 of those 17.

The moneyline

One unit on every one of the 32 priced games made 1.94 units. The favorites broke even to the cent; the 11 underdog prices made all of it, led by a 77-71 win at Marquette at +210. February was the month: 6-1, five covers, 4.07 units.

VCU and Saint Louis

VCU beat Dayton three times, the third in the Atlantic 10 final, and the Flyers covered none of them. Saint Louis went the other way after a 102-71 January rout: Dayton won the next two as underdogs, 77-62 at +154 and 70-69 at +180 in the conference semifinal.

The season went on in the NIT, with road wins over Bradley and UNC Wilmington before a 61-55 home quarterfinal loss to Illinois State.
