Southern Illinois Salukis

Southern Illinois games were low games. Twenty-two unders and nine overs, 71.0%, sixth in the country. The Salukis scored 73.0 points a game and allowed 69.56; 63 Division I teams allowed fewer, one the same.

Road and home

On the road the Salukis went 7-8 and covered 10 of 15. One unit on each of their 15 priced road games made 5.8 units, 34th in Division I. At home they went 8-6, covered 5 of 13, and the home moneyline lost 4.02.

The road prices did the work: 86-84 at High Point at +350, 54-50 at Illinois State at +340, and 68-67 at Belmont at +260. As underdogs the Salukis won 5 of 15 and made 2.9 units.

Favored, and Drake

As favorites they went 10-6, covered eight, and lost 2.86 units on the moneyline; 63 of 361 Division I teams did worse there. Drake supplied two of the shortest-priced losses: 76-73 at home at -258, and 67-63 in the first round of the Missouri Valley tournament at -230, which ended the season. Drake was the only opponent the Salukis met three times, and they won once.

February

February was the profitable month: 6-2, six covers, 5.84 units. November and January were the weak ones, 3.58 units lost in a 4-4 November and two covers in eight January spreads. Northern Iowa lost both meetings and Southern Illinois covered both, worth 3.4 units; Evansville and Indiana State were also beaten and covered twice each.

Flat-staking every one of the 31 priced Saluki games returned 0.04 units: road profit and home losses netted to almost nothing.
