Lamar Cardinals

One unit on the Cardinals in their 17 priced games as favorites lost 5.99 units in 2025-26; only four Division I teams lost more that way. Six of those favorite losses came at home, and the season ended on eight straight defeats.

Favored and beaten at home

Lamar went 7-8 at home and lost six times there with the shorter price: Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 57-49 at -162, UT Rio Grande Valley 83-72 at -175 and Omaha 85-82 at -238 in December, then Northwestern State 70-68 at -340, New Orleans 77-71 at -205 and Nicholls 53-52 at -180 in February. Three of the six were decided by three points or fewer. Home spreads went 4 of 13, and only 34 teams covered a smaller share at home. The home moneyline lost 6.07 units.

February

February was 1-7, two covers in eight, 6.65 units lost. The one win was 73-54 over SE Louisiana; from there Lamar did not win again, eight losses running into March, the last 75-53 at Houston Christian laying 2.5.

The better side

Away from home Lamar covered 8 of 15. The two plus-money wins both came on the road: 68-63 at Montana at +175 in November and 90-80 at Nicholls at +150 in January. McNeese beat them twice, but Lamar covered both, including a 64-63 home loss getting 10.5.

November was the good start: 4-2, three covers in four, with a 79-66 win at UL Monroe laying 11.5 and a 78-65 loss at TCU that still covered 18.5. Stephen F. Austin won both meetings and Lamar covered neither.

The season line

Twelve covers in 29, 41.4%, with only 51 Division I teams covering less often, and 12.74 units lost on the moneyline over 29 priced games; only 20 teams lost more. Lamar scored 69.9 points a game and allowed 69.13, and the totals split 15 under, 14 over.
