Before and after New Year

Baylor went 5-1 in November and 5-1 in December. From 3 January the record was 6-14, the spread was covered 7 times in 20, and one unit on the Bears to win each priced game lost 10.23. January alone was 2-7 with two covers, and the only win in its first five games came at Oklahoma State, 94-79.

All six home defeats came in that second half, between 7 January and 24 February: Iowa State, Houston, Texas Tech, TCU, BYU and Arizona. Through December they had been unbeaten at home.

Baylor were underdogs 14 times. They won at West Virginia 63-53 at +130 and at UCF 87-86 at +105, and lost the other 12. They covered 4 of the 14, and of the 362 teams that took points at some point in the season, only ten did worse in that role and one did the same. The moneyline in those games lost 9.65 units.

As favorites they were 13-4 and 9-8 against the spread, and the 16 priced games still lost 0.76, with defeats at -218 at home to TCU and -250 to Arizona State in the Big 12 tournament.

Three Big 12 teams they did not beat

Houston, Iowa State and TCU each won both meetings, and Baylor covered none of those six; Arizona State split two and took the tournament game. Over the season the Bears covered 13 spreads and missed 18, 41.9%.

The total

Eighteen overs and 13 unders, an over rate of 58.1% with 45 teams above it and two level. Baylor scored 82.56 a game and allowed 77.16.

After the season they beat Minnesota 67-48 in the College Basketball Crown and lost 82-69 to Oklahoma in the semifinal.
