The NBA is in its offseason. ESPN’s 2026-27 schedule, read 23 September 2026, opens with three games on 20 October: Boston at Detroit, Philadelphia at New York, and Oklahoma City at San Antonio. That last game is a rematch of the 2026 Western Conference finals, which San Antonio won in seven.
The table is where 2025-26 ended, the top six seeds in each conference (ESPN standings, read 23 September 2026). Detroit had the East’s top record at 60-22. Oklahoma City’s 64-18 was the best in the league, two games clear of San Antonio.

Last season
The New York Knicks won the 2026 NBA title, beating San Antonio 4-1 in the Finals and closing it out 94-90 in San Antonio on 13 June. They did it as the East’s No. 3 seed and went 16-3 through the playoffs, sweeping Philadelphia in the second round and Cleveland in the conference finals. Neither No. 1 seed reached the Finals: Detroit lost to Cleveland in seven in the second round, and Oklahoma City lost to San Antonio in seven one round later.
How NBA betting works here
Every NBA game carries three main markets, and each of our predictions names which one it plays and at what price.
The point spread is a handicap. A team listed at -5.5 has to win by 6 or more for the bet to cash; the team at +5.5 cashes if it wins outright or loses by 5 or fewer. Half-point lines exist so that a bet cannot land exactly on the number.
The moneyline is a straight pick of the winner. A negative price, such as -200, is what you stake to win 100; a positive price, such as +170, is what 100 wins. The favorite pays less because it is more likely to win.
The total, or over/under, is the combined score of both teams. An NBA game runs four 12-minute quarters, so the total is set on 48 minutes plus any overtime, and overtime points count toward it.
Books also price the first half, single quarters and player props. A prediction on this site states which line was read, and when, because a number moves between the day a line opens and tip-off.

When do the 2026-27 NBA predictions start? With the season. The first games on ESPN’s schedule are three on 20 October 2026, and none of our 2026-27 predictions was up on 23 September.
Do you publish a prediction for every NBA game? No. As of 23 September 2026 no 2026-27 NBA prediction has been published, and the grid above shows exactly what is up.
What does a prediction contain? Going by our 14 WNBA predictions of 21 to 24 September, the call comes first, then our own number for the game, the price at which it is a bet, the time the market was read and a view on the total. Four of those 14 said no bet.
Who won the 2026 NBA Finals? The New York Knicks, 4-1 over the San Antonio Spurs. Game 5 finished 94-90 in San Antonio on 13 June 2026.
Which team had the best 2025-26 record? Oklahoma City, at 64-18, followed by San Antonio at 62-20 and Detroit at 60-22 (ESPN final standings).
